" BED IN " new brakes & rotors needed?

I've never bedded. With mixed results.

My Saturn just loved to warp rotors, like every 20k. Wife's Civic never got a brake job, so no clue there (173kmiles when we got rid of it). The Jetta got a new set of rotors, which warped quickly; the replacements have been just fine. I just slapped some new rear pads on the Camry, no issues so far.

We are light brakers, coast a lot, no city driving. I'd try this bedding stuff, but the Jetta is the first one which will get driven long enough to know if it matters or not. [new pads and rotors around 170kmiles, replacement rotors around 200k, last check showed lots of pad left. The Camry got new pads due to a fluke, or poor dealer service.]

I am in the burnish, bed-in, whatver you want to call it camp. I do not think it is absolutely necessary or you will have serious problems if you do not for most normal applications.

I now always bed in brakes even with just a pad replacement. I find that I have zero issues later on and get 30-40% more mileage out of pads.

Never noticed any improvement by attempting to bed in any street brakes on cars or light trucks, maybe even had better results from not but ill tell you what, the EBC "green" compound pads on my motorcycle absolutely required some break in, though even with new pads I cant get rid of the squeal.

DONE DONE DONE , just put them on and all went well, no problems. My 64 year old back said we could do this LOL.
The old rotors were turned down once at Toyota when I bought the car used with 36k.....they did a [censored] of a job , looks like hammer marks on the inside of both rotors, probably trying to get them off for the first time....oh well. And the brakes I took off were NAPA brand that I put on last year and they were wearing good and even. I put anti sieze where needed , and used the tork wrench for proper tork.....alot of tire shops never heard of a tork wrench lol.
This was a great topic .....lot of yes and no answers.....and divided options on whether to " bed em " or not. Fred Flintstone never had these problems.
