Baxter Performance Oil Filter Anti Drain Adapter???

yep!! Zero issues with mine.

I did an experiement the last time I changed the oil. I pulled the drain plug and let it drain till a drip. Then I stuck another container under the drain and then evacuated the Baxter adapter and filter. I got an extra 300 ml (0.3qt) of oil doing that.
Thanks for the feedback. Can you tell a difference on a cold start in the morning?

Pretty much same same for me as JRHAWK9. I never noticed any rattle at start up since new so I can't comment on that. I'm currently running an Amsoil oil filter but when my supply runs out, I'll be going to a Fram Titanium also. I think it is worth it, but plenty of naysayers on here as I'm sure you've seen.😂

Do you ever think that the Baxter Performance could fail in anyway? I mean like the little anti drain back plug getting stuck etc? Or anything that you guys could see that could go wrong with running it?

One last question for those of you that have one, how do you check your oil to make sure it’s accurate? Since the adapter holds oil and retains it, and does not allow it to drop back down in the oil pan, when you check the oil cold wouldn’t you be below your oil line and not be accurate?

Just like you would normally. I keep mine at the full line.

It has been awhile and thinking about finally getting around to ordering one of these again, for those that are still running them what are your thoughts after all this time? Any problems with it, and would you still recommend?

Love it, no regrets, works great! Just order it... 😎 Allows you to run a much bigger oil filter than the tiny stock one which is a bonus also.

Same here. When doing an oil change you literally purge pretty much a full filters worth of oil (volume-wise) from the filter.

Hi all .

I have to agree that running a larger suitable oil filter is a good idea ,
I have an 06 FXT and I use the FB Tokyo Roki 15208AA160 oil filter on my EJ255 .
And yes the oil filter faces downwards on EJ25's .
My engine has the next size up 11 mm oil pump and I use 0W40 mineral diesel oil .

I just wanted to point out that most Subarus have a flood clear function where you hold the accelerator to the floor and crank away with your injectors shut . If you do this for 10 seconds or so at cold starts the oil pump primes the engine and filter .
My old girl has 295 000 Km on it (with new OE pumps belts etc) but I got tired of the cold start rattles so the flood clear cranking is a zero cost way of priming the oil system .

Yep I'm well aware of the Clear Flood mode. 🤙 I use it every time I change the oil and filter to prime the filter before starting.

Good Morning,
There has been a lot of good dialogue on this product over a good amount of time including members having experience using the unit on their vehicles. There is also a number of positive comments on it.

I noticed a couple comments stating there was no difference at startup of the engine because there were no rattles to begin with. (My 2021 Forester has no odd noises at startup or after an oil and filter change.)

If that is the case, what is the purpose of this product?
Is there any hard data showing that a Subaru or Chrysler Pentastar engine is truly "dry" when the engine is started?

If this has been already been answered within our community please share the BITOG link. Thank you in advance for all your thoughts!

No hard data that the engine is dry, but definitely hard data that the oil filter drains out as soon as you shut the engine down, even though it has an "anti drainback valve". If you own a Subaru, try removing your oil filter shortly after shutting the engine down. There will be no oil in it. Try doing that with an oil filter installed on the Baxter unit without first blowing a few shots of air to blow the oil down and you have one big oily mess. Noise or no noise, that can't be good for an engine, especially over time. That is why I purchased one, plus the fact that you run a much larger oil filter than stock with it. I have since heard that they changed the adapter to be able to run factory sized oil filters. Sounds like this was done to increase sales because many people wanted to run the factory oil filter with this unit out of "warranty concerns".

Check this out. Without the Baxter unit, every time you start your Subaru, the oil filter is empty. This video pretty much backs up that you want a full oil filter every time you start.

The filter isn't completely empty, as the ADBV does hold some back on the upstream side of the filter. Just doesn't hold much.

not my video:

I just changed the oil on a '23 Crosstrek that my buddy's daughter owns. No Baxter adapter. Shut the car off as soon as I pulled it in the garage, opened the hood and pulled the filter within 5 minutes of shutting down. Had oil absorbent pads all around filter as I was expecting an oily mess pulling the filter so quickly. I was shocked. No oil came out. Filter had already drained!😳 Saw the same thing on my '22 Crosstrek before I bought the Baxter unit. That was all the convincing needed.

yep, same thing for me and also the same thing that the video I posted above shows. The filter mostly drains out, only leaving a little oil on the "dirty side" of the filter that the ADBV holds back. Any oil that passes through the filter media to the "clean Side" will drain out.

Hi dezlpwr,
Thank you for sharing your comments and the video. From 9:23 to 9:26 of the video the pressure gauge stays at zero for 3-4 seconds. This would mean my oil pressure light in my car would be on for this amount of time.

In both my 2021 Forester and my 2019 Grand Cherokee I have never experienced the oil light staying on and both engines start immediately. (both daily driving and after install of a new oil filter)

The Grand Cherokee has a cartridge so its not possible to prefill but I can pre-fill the filter on the Subaru completely on the the can side and some into the center hole area. No oil pressure light at startup.

They put the words CRANKING when they start the test. It appears they are not actually cranking the engine. Perhaps they are applying air pressure to the oil passages of the engine.

So I'm skeptical about the test method and results in the video.
