anyone here bank with united bank.. pro, cons yay or nay? banked for many years with a local credit union until i moved and moved my assets to td bank. no real issues with td bank will probably keep majority of the savings account with them.. right now my work situation has changed and will not be getting direct deposit and looking for a basic, simple and free checking that doesn't require direct deposit and x amount of transactions to maintain a free account. thanks in advance!

Not only that but you will get some of the highest savings rates in the USA. There are some a little higher but Ive been with this for a while, though I am loyal to no one buy my wallet.

Free Checking and Savings https://www.cit.com/cit-bank/bank

Another reliable one but not as high interest rate

I do comb the sites such as Bank Rate mentioned by @ripcord as it's a great way to find what is out there. The above two are no strings banks. When using these sites to find banks make sure to read the terms of offers that might sound too good to be true.
I also use sites like BankRate among others to take special offers. Actually Facebook right now lists a lot of them.
SO far this year I collected $900 in free money opening and closing a Chase checking and Savings.

I am going to receive another $500 from Wells Fargo before the end of the year for opening a Credit Card and Checking account.
I am about to open another bank checking and savings for up to another $700 before the end of the year. All together about $2,100 for the year in free money. I have a number of bank offers for the last $700 not sure which one I am going with yet. It could be a little more or a little less. It's a fun thing I do to make my home computers make money for me instead of me using them jsut to buy stuff. *LOL*

Actually I just switched both car insurance policies yesterday. Progressive sent me my wife car renewal with a $50 increase on it for a 6 months policy - $100 a year, I figured in another month the same will happen with my truck and in 6 months most likely will happen again. SO I went shopping, in this case I couldnt find anything cheaper but then tried Shopify.com after some REALLY tedious searching, I signed up with a new company called “Direct Auto Insurance” for the best price. Which is a subsidiary of Intengon Preferred Ins company which is part of National General which is an Allstate company. :) I paid for both cars full year in advance $1,146.00 Saving any price increase from Progressive which I calculate would have been as much as $250 for the year.
So the new insurance I put to start on Nov 1, called progressive to cancel and they are refunding the remaining term on the 2 cars to me.

Correct, not to long ago, couple years, First Citizens acquired CitBank. This is what they refer to as their online bank network now.
I actually maintain a First Citizens account, in case locally I have to deposit cash or do a cash transaction. I maintain a tiny bit of money in the checking account, around $250 or less. I never use it but it's the only brick and mortar bank I have so I consider it a portal to the high rate online banks.
I think the last time was when we sold our house two years ago. I used them to deposit the check, once it cleared I transferred it. Online banks limit how much you can deposit at one time.
Also my accountant still has that account number, in the rare cases of refunds the money still goes there electronically. and then .... I transfer it out.

Yes Wells Fargo never had any interest in and boa did my father no good totally agree
Any commercial bank is no good. Hence the name Commercial. However I use them for free money and that is all. Once I collect it, I close the accounts. Bank that gives me the most free money I sign up for, using the min amount to collect the free part.

I like the idea of a brick and mortar institution to walk into to conduct business and transactions

Where are you located? I needed to open an account recently and BMO bought out Bank of the West from BNP Paribas. They have a pretty good free checking. I have this one tiny account where I just use it to deposit all my odds and ends and often keep fairly little in there. I think as low as a few cents at times and they have no minimums. I think once I accidentally went over (didn't think a transaction would go through) and they didn't even charge me overdraft when they paid it. I just had to put in enough to cover it and I was set. I think they're mostly in the midwest though.

In 32 years I have never had a bad experience at Bank of America. They gladly take care of my senior moments without charging me. Their end of year statement are clear and easily accessable. I'm sorry if my free everything at B of A isn't quite good enough for the haters. Last year it cost them around $1300 to have me as a customer. That does not include CD interest. The only thing I hate are the speed humps in their parking lot.

Best solution?

Find the best and friendliest credit union near you. Then open a Fidelity account.

Take advantage of whatever deal the CU has and the rest at Fidelity. Easy instant transfer between the two

BOA is like a Time Share that you can't figure out how to get out of ... I have moved to a Credit Union!

My local BOA branch remolded and removed 2 teller windows so the line is now out the door, added a outdoor walk up ATM, CLOSED the drive in window and changed the hours and now closes at 4 PM! Whoever heard of a bank that don't even keep banking hours? The Banks now have a habit of charging you more and offering less! I want MORE for LESS! As a kid growing up Banks would give mom and Dad Toasters and blenders and such and if nothing else a SMILE! All I got from BOA was a FEE and a hard time.

I also HATE my local TRUIST ( old BB&T ) bank with a passion... I recently departed them and on the hunt for a new bank! With TRUIST its the people at my local Branch, Google shows a total of 1 star reviews, My local Truist has a TOXIC culture from the TOP down!

OP Check Google Reviews for the local branch you will be using as IF that local branch is rotten you entire bank experience will be.
Now I have a local Credit Union that puts a smile on my face every time I enter! Wonderful people!

I would do your research OP and I would consider small local banks first if it will give you what you need?
