I guess there aren't any.

The same can be said about someone spending $30K or more on a sports car or a motorcycle...to someone else there may not be any benefit, but to you there may be...

I hope you're not a psycho therapist because you're not very good at it...

Mine is three. She'll be going to a private school. I'm going to spend money first where I can see tangible benefits.

People will spend a lot of money on fluff(fancy houses, cars, trinkets, etc) but go cheap on the important stuff.

Good for you. Apparently my kids turned okay going to public schools...they both have good careers and neither of them live in our basement...

Believe it or not the biggest benefits (to me) are when I help someone else. Obviously you are different. And its only about you

I do understand.

Probably had to pay for the license, didn't buy her a ring...took a long lunch break. It's been good value for money, but the kids have made us broke.

I got to share in the events that will be fondly remembered as the best day of my daughter's lives, and her mother and I are the ones who made it so...

Our actual wedding was at the local justice of the peace and cost less than $100. Her dream wedding was on our 1 year anniversary and was about half the average cost... and we saved up and paid cash for it.

I can't believe poor Gramps is getting pounded by people not approving of large weddings for his kids.

Certainly not for me, but I won't try to persuade anyone to think my way either. He's happy and I assume they are too so that's all that matters.

Comparing a large wedding to a private school is just silliness. I have no words.

Like I keep saying...you spend 20 years (with Disney et al) creating a scanario, and deliver on it....brainwashing.

The "BEST" day of her life would, I hope be another day than that.

Car guys on an oil forum discussing how a woman should and should not feel. This is rich.

I'm sure that Grampi's daughter and her husband have many more moments together, that may well include "the best day of their collective lives".

Grampi has defined that moment...I was providing counter.

I should hope that the birth of Grampi's daughter's first child should trump Grampi's assessment of what her best day was...but it will certianly not trump his day of importance there.

bTW, you used the phrase "poor grampi" that's derogatory, he's not.

You act like your a God, overseeing everyone's actions and feelings. You know nothing about me or my family, yet you continue to assume that you do. Like I said earlier, give the psycho babble garbage a rest, because you suck at it...

I would hope so too. The actual wedding is really inconsequential in the whole thing. Things you did before and things you do after your wedding day are going to be what impacts your life. My wife will be getting her masters in nursing next month. The graduation ceremony is the least important step in the whole thing. Learning, and then using that to further your career and opportunities is the important stuff.
