It bugs me when people post time only without mentioning the mileage. When you change every 6 or 12 months, do you drive 5K each year (as I sometimes do) or 25K each year (as I've once done)?

Owners manual say every 8000km, I do every 7500kms. Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 in my 09 Corolla. I do 18,000 km in 6 months so its all distance (highway) for me.

Depends 6k miles or 6months for the Ford, and 8-9k miles for the Honda dependent on the OLM.

My general rule of thumb is (miles):

3K dino
4.5K blend
6K synthetic

I don't do UOA as I can just change the oil for the cost.

In actual application, my 2005 is limited to 5K and I'll use YB (GrpII+) or MC blend or any synthetic so long as it meets Ford's *930A spec for 5W20. Usage is 20K miles/year.

My '85 is on an annual (~8K miles) but uses consumes a lot.

I usually find deals to keep my cost to ~$1/qt. I have paid $2/qt for PP but it seems a waste to run it only 5K miles.

I think "average" is what skews the results. The climate, type of driving, age and mileage of the vehicle,type of oil used, as well as the factory recos all affect the "average".

I have four vehicles in my family with OCI of 2k,5k,5k,and 10k.

4 different viscosities and spec requirements.

My old Honda runs fairly clean. The oil is only just starting to darken when I need to add ~2/3 qt. of make-up at ~4K.

I've been running M1, but will likely switch when the next change is due. I'd like to Try Redline or some other genuine Synthetic. Then I might push for 10K, with one or two UOA along the way.

My OCI for the 3.0l T-100 with 10w30 Synpower runs from 5 to 6k over 3-4 months. TBN at 4900 miles at 3 months interval was 3.6. I could go to 6k easily. I don't drive it hard.

For my 94 V-6 Dakota pickup, I run 10w30 Valvoline conventional and change at 4k over 3 to 4 months. No UOA yet. It has 235K on the 3.9l V-6 with little oil consumption.

Wix oil filters are used on each truck

The out of warranty 5k+/- types are probably empty nest types. They may indeed be 6 month OCI types ..but just don't know it.

With my wife's Honda I change it every 5000 miles (or 6 months) and use Castrol GTX 5w20. With my Corvette I follow the oil life monitor (wait for it to hit 0%) and that usually puts it at between 6000 and 7000 miles.

I generally put < 5,000 miles per year on my car. My OCI is based on that mileage alone, with the following caveat:

• No short trips

Sometimes it takes 14-15 months to get 5K, so that's when I change the oil.

6 months or 7k miles. Synthetic oil, (Mobil 1, Pennzoil Platinum or Valvoline)with Mann, Purolator or Mobil oil filters.

No offense taken,it's just conversation. I agree shorter is better re motorcycles with shared oil. I change mine 1x per year even if I've only got 800 miles on it.
