Average Age of Bob Member's Vehicles

From what I'm seeing it seems like a lot of Bitog members keep their vehicles a long time. Probably because Bitog members don't abuse their hardware and know how to properly maintain and repair it.

Also a mental aspect. After stressing over oil change intervals and viscosity, you don't want to trade it in early making all the mental gymnastics moot.

OR-they can't buy new cars due to their own economic situations or they are simply going to leave their house equity to their kids-or they are just plain cheap.

2015 Toyota RAV 4 =10
2019 VW GTI = 6

Is this one still languishing? These used to be a dime-a-dozen, but now they're sought after.

What's wrong with it? Is it 4x4?
Yes 4x4. It overheated and shot all the coolant out of the radiator cap after turning it off. We suspect a bad engine like a flawed block or something. We replaced the head and head gasket and it had the same problem. Someone who claimed to be a Cherokee expert told us in 2001 they used whatever junk parts were laying around the factory because the employees had no motivation since they were losing their jobs and he suspected a flawed or cracked block or something like that. No mechanic including me has been able to figure it out.

We’ve had offers on it but I don’t think dad wants to part with it. It’s the rare solar yellow color which helps the value some. But it’s been off the road for 11 years. Only has 108,000 on the clock. Some joker came and offered $300 for it he told him to go on somewhere lol.

Wow! That seems a little bizarre.

I know they had issues with cracked heads (casting 0331), which caused coolant mixing with oil, but nothing that extreme.
Don't believe the "Junk parts lying around" story, that's nonsense.

One day, you'll figure it out and kick yourself for letting it sit for 11 years. I know you don't like Chrysler products, but that one is worth saving!

Please note-I originated the saying"BITOG-where old cars come to die" when I joined this forum. It was an observation-even then.

Some of my favorite quotes are that one from you, and @dishdude “If you're a member of this site you're on the spectrum”.

As well as this lengthy post of the late, great, engineer20:

“Today, an accident happened. I had a 5 quart jug I used but there was some leftover oil at the bottom of the jug that was hard to get at or pour, so i poured it into a little powerbait trout fishing bait container. It had one piece of bait left (you can google it , powerbait trout bait if you're unsure of what it is, but it's small and sticky but not hard but perhaps dissolvable in water). I didn't think the piece would fall in the crankcase, but when I used the powerbait container (as an intermediate between the jug and my crankcase) on the taurus, the powerbait piece fell into the crainkcase! I tried to fish it out but it was impossible. Is this going to damage my engine or be bad for it or should my engine be able to handle it and would it go into the oil filter or would it clog anything? THanks.

should I get a mechanic to fish it out or am I OK?

also, is kingsford charcoal much better than the store brand charcoals and the charcoal lighter fluids? can you put charcaol lighter fluid in lighters instead of buying zippo brand lighter fluid? Thanks”
