Average Age of Bob Member's Vehicles

Around 1974, one Volvo went something like this: "On average, Volvos in Sweden last 11 years. Imagine how long they'll last in Canada!"

Cars have come a long way!

OR-they can't buy new cars due to their own economic situations or they are simply going to leave their house equity to their kids-or they are just plain cheap.
If you buy a car that suits you and the use you put it to, then why would you replace it?
Buy a suitable car, care for it properly and drive it for a long time.
Better things to spend money on than transportation.
We'll have both of our bought new cars for at least another five years and they'll still look good and perform reliably.

We can agree to disagree.

24 yrs average.............a 1999 and a 2001. I prefer the years of 1998-2012 for used cars.

And it's easier to find clean ones from 1998-2004. Still looking for an affordable, very low mileage Lincoln Town Car,
Crown Vic. or Grand Marquis in the 2006-2012 range.

The best place to look is at old folks homes where gramps bought a new car but hardly used it.

Some truth here. I’m getting closer to listing my father in law’s 2020 Mustang GT lightweight. He purchased it as his weekend toy in retirement but came down with Alzheimer’s the next year. Car mostly sits under a tarp in his garage. My brother in law or myself will take it out on occasion but it doesn’t get driven much. It’s had all fluids changed as well with the exception of the 10R80 since the shop didn’t have the adapters for the flush but coolant, differential, brakes, etc have all been changed within 20k miles (about what’s on it currently).

That’s also how my grandfather found the 66 Bronco in my signature. One of his friends purchased it new, used it for about 50l miles, got too old & parked it.

I have several other instances of similar vehicles being sold when folks age out of driving

Are you East of the Mississippi?

Yes, mid atlantic. Everything on the list with the exception of the Civic sedan is solid. That one is about to be scrapped due to terminal rust, which is a shame because it runs great and is fun to drive (5-speed). In an ideal world, I'd find another 6th gen Civic with no rust and a bad motor

I'm pretty sure that there's one more car left in that engine.

The reason I asked is because it so much easier to drive those type of high mile vehicles when there is no "middle of no where". The "Great West" has too many places where you can drive at not pass another car for two hours-with no cell phone signal.

Yea-I'm going to drive a 300,000 mile beater to the Great Basin National Park.

My old '78 Chevy 1ton crew cab had 328k on it when I sold it. Would have driven that thing anywhere 4wd wasn't needed.

My friends shop services/maintains several fleet F series trucks with 400-700k on them (gassers, mostly 6.2's). Several of these service trucks regularly travel between Sacramento area & southern Oregon passing over Mt. Shasta.

If it's in good condition, I'd not be anymore worried about it than any other vehicle with a few miles on it.

Yes-A high mile vehicle is reliable...until it isn't. And when is it not going to be? Murphy's law - see my picture above. You know what a tow costs for 200 miles? It's not cheap.

If you drive an older vehicle and are concerned about that, rentals are cheap and easy enough to come by.

Not sure what you are arguing. Many ways to skin a cat, here.
