I do the oil changes on my friends Chevy cube van (6.5 Turbo diesel). I don't usually go to Autozone, but I was in a hurry and they were the closest store with oil and filters.
I picked out 2 gallons of Rotella from the shelf, then waited in line for 10 minutes while the clerk was arguing with some guys who were trying to return a battery they bought in 2002 that had a "lifetime warranty". I was quickly losing patience, and after I was finally able to purchase the oil, I threw the oil in the back seat and hurried back to the garage.
I had things to do, so I was rushing the job, and didn't notice when I started pouring the oil into the engine that the seal that is always under the cap wasn't there. I did notice, however, that the oil was black and obviously not new.
After taking a closer look at the bottle, it had a Walmart price tag on it, so I can only assume it was used oil returned to autozone, and the guys restocking the shelves mistook it for a new bottle.
So after cursing at myself for rushing and not paying attention, I took it back to autozone, and they refused to give my money back. I can't say I blame them, honestly, but man I was [censored] off at the time. I'm sure they thought I was trying to rip them off, but I told them what I thought of them anyway.
So, long story short, I will never waste my time at autozone again. I'm tired of the bad customer service and long waits in line anyway.
