Be careful buying a used vehicle

I don't know if this is common, but I bought a used vehicle a while back and I could tell the guys story didn't really line up because for someone claiming he's known about the vehicle for a while, he sure didn't know much about it. I guess the lesson here is when money is involved, people are going to lie. Anyways, what he did was the 2 or 3 things the truck needed to have replaced, he said we're just replaced. Basically to make it so you wouldn't notice it. I know he mentioned replacing the vacuum pump and the radiator. We'll the radiator was a lie, but it did look new for some reason. I guess they just stay in good shape on this type of vehicle. The vacuum pump was new. I guess after that I didn't really look at the other stuff. It's not a big deal because I got a good deal still, but I just thought that was pretty shady doing that. Saying something has been replaced knowing most people would take the persons word.

Careful. The depreciation police might come out and throttle you for that comment.
Depends on how long you keep the vehicle. If you only keep it 3 or 4 years, might as well lease it because it will be a wash in the end. If you keep a vehicle for 15-20 years like I do assuming it's a good vehicle to begin with, might as well buy new and depreciate it over that time. That's probably the cheapest way to go with emphasis on it being a known good vehicle to begin with. Now if it's a pos straight off the assembly line that you intend to own for the next 15-20 years, then hold onto your checkbook.

I want to do this someday. But I just don’t make enough money to buy a new car. I could afford the payments, but it’s the insurance that obliterates any chances of buying new. Insurance rates are wild, nearly half the payment of a new car!

I want to buy a house before I sink more money into cars.

I have liability on my two dodge pickups. $100/month for both of them.

Not denying your point to beware.

I just wonder if the radiator wasn't a parts quality issue.

How many stories do we have regarding poor quality parts out of the box?

Just a thought.

The radiator was fine. It was the fact that the coolant was never changed or mixed with incompatible coolant. Idk, but the inside was too nasty to be recently replaced.

Not to defend the guy but is it possible that he took it in for work and the place charged him for services or parts they didn't replace?

No, he was a lying pos, but with that being said I could have done a better job going over it myself.

My finger was shaking when I hit the "enter" key. LOL.

I was helping the daughter of my best friend, who had just passed from cancer, buy a car. The car seemed fine overall, but it had a couple issues. I pressed him until he admitted he was a car flipper and hadn’t touched it at all. Honesty is all I want and sometimes I have to force it.

Buying used cars is not fun at all.

Yeah, I got taken for acouple grand on my Tundra in signature. Like mentioned before, the risks you take buying a used vehicle. Not to hijack thread but garages are becoming more and more shady here the last couple years and its not an isolated situation.

I ran into that a lot on Facebook marketplace. You can tell cause they don't know anything about the vehicle. I had that one thread about the guy wanting me to meet him at the gas station, then go to his house after meeting. That means he does this all the time and doesn't want someone coming to the house who ends up flaking and he's stuck waiting
