Be careful buying a used vehicle

I ran into that a lot on Facebook marketplace. You can tell cause they don't know anything about the vehicle. I had that one thread about the guy wanting me to meet him at the gas station, then go to his house after meeting. That means he does this all the time and doesn't want someone coming to the house who ends up flaking and he's stuck waiting
In the DPRM you have to get a used car dealer’s license if you sell more than four cars a year.

We find many “private” sellers with multiple cars for sale. Usually, they try to get the seller to sign the title but leave the buyer blank. That way they avoid the sales tax - and any prospective liability, because dealers have to provide a basic warranty.

That's called title jumping

What state? I pay $230 for two cars 14 and 20 years old. Newer cars cost much more.
Very much so. Our CRV is $800/yr for just liability--but--we have two teen drivers. That shoots it through the roof. My '21 Camry Hybrid is like $2k and my '21 Corolla is $2,500 (!). I have half a mind to trade out of the 'rolla next year and into something that won't need collision.

I don't know if this is common, but I bought a used vehicle a while back and I could tell the guys story didn't really line up because for someone claiming he's known about the vehicle for a while, he sure didn't know much about it. I guess the lesson here is when money is involved, people are going to lie. Anyways, what he did was the 2 or 3 things the truck needed to have replaced, he said we're just replaced. Basically to make it so you wouldn't notice it. I know he mentioned replacing the vacuum pump and the radiator. We'll the radiator was a lie, but it did look new for some reason. I guess they just stay in good shape on this type of vehicle. The vacuum pump was new. I guess after that I didn't really look at the other stuff. It's not a big deal because I got a good deal still, but I just thought that was pretty shady doing that. Saying something has been replaced knowing most people would take the persons word.
Not going to say all used car sellers lie... but it's probably a relatively safe assumption.

I liked one ad I saw. "Mechanic owned and serviced. Everything works, except a/c, just needs a recharge." Umm, if you're a mechanic, why not just fill it yourself? probably because it's not just low... but someone, somewhere, is apt to fall for that.

I've done ok on used cars, and I understand that sometimes, issues might actually not be known by the seller.

TX you just have to shop around. Loyalty to an insurance company never pays off. Inhad state farm. Then they bumped it up to 200 for both vehicles. Found someone who sold progressive and it was half that. Stick with an independent family owned company if you can

One of the advantages in being a vehicle at a salvage auction is the vehicle is likely at auction due to a event, not a vehicle owner looking to dump their trouble ridden vehicle.

One can at times find one owner, excessively dealer maintained vehicles at salvage auction. There are many things to look for, such as seeing a new set of Michelins on a vehicle at salvage auction.

When I sold the Focus I was up front with all the issues. They said that was refreshing for once and bought it. Said they test drove several and wasn’t anything what they claimed. It ran and stopped good and that was good enough.

Who's waiting your friends? That's another can of worms if you sell to a friend.
It’s never been a problem for me. I’ve kept track of a couple of my cars and the owners are still good friends. One travels to the Vintage every year.
