Auto RX in Mopars

Has anyone used Auto RX in a smallblock Dodge/Plymouth V8? I'm curious as to how well it would work in an engine with loose tolerances such as this? Also, the timing gear is made of nylon- would Auto RX harm or weaken the nylon teeth?

One other question- I've seen pics on the Auto RX website of before/after the treatment of oil in the crankcase (on dipstick), and during the treatment, the oil in the crankcase was full of dirt/carbon particles. It would seem to me that if the oil in the crankcase has these particles in it, then they could clog up the oil pickup screen on the oil pump, and wear out the bearings in the oil pump itself- because this dirty oil has to pass through the pump before it gets to the filter where the particles can be removed. Any thoughts on this?

My thought is ..the dirt is already in the engine..it is not as though ARX is adding the dirt..it is cleaning it off the engine parts and suspening it until it is drained...ARX does not break away big chunks of debris it cleans layer by layer..so the oil screen is in no danger of getting plugged...If any engine would jhave ever gotten plugged from ARX it is Arrons ..have you seen his pictures??

Well, my problem is this. The main problem in my engine is that there's carbon literally caked on to the cylinder heads, camshaft, etc. It's nearly an inch thick and I'm amazed the engine even runs at all. But the point is that it is stuck on to where is is, and not circulating in the engine. If I use Auto RX, it's going to dislodge these deposits and cause them to get into the bearings.

Auto-rx supposedly cleans and liquifies very very slowly, so I don't think you will have a problem. There have been very sludged up engines with tighter tolerances that have been fine.

Lothar, This s;udge is already floating around inside the engine. It has to be in the engine in order to build up on stationary parts. These deposits did not buildup over night. SO your engine has already and is continueing to see these sludge particles on a continious basis. SO any fears you have should be of this build up staying in the engine continueing to contaiminate all fresh fluids you add. I would also worry about what is cuaseing this type of sludgeing. Either the vechile has not had proper maintence or it had coolant leak into the engine etc...

Lothar it isn't a flush type product that could remove large chunks. Cleans slowly and safely.

I have used arx in my 78 slant six. Was very pleased with it making the car run better. About 1200 miles into the clean, you could feel the engine pick up power. Also get about 2 more mpg. The car only has 46k on it and 30k of that was on mobil 1. The engine was clean, but i think it freed the ring packs to get better compression and oil usage is down by a 1/2 also.

Lothar,

Auto-Rx will have no impact on nylon, in regards to degredation. Also, if your top end is as heavily sludged as you portray, get the Auto-Rx system working. It sounds like you may have a tow application senario. Just be sure to follow the application instructions, and be sure to start with a fresh filter. You'll be amazed. Save that Mopar.
