I'm going to pick on Ford and there Motorcraft oil as this is what I run in my 2013 5.0 Mustang (Motorcraft simi-synthetic 5w20) Can I assume that Ford has tested the extreme heck out of the oil with there name on it to a point where they have parted out there engines to see how the wear patterns are after abusive testing? Or did they just pick the lowest oil supplier bidder and go with it?

The automakers seem to have long-term relationships with their suppliers, so I doubt its an absolute low-bidder situation. On the other hand, I don't doubt that the price paid is not far above rock bottom, like everything else that goes into a mass-produced car.
Ford's oil is pretty close to Honda spec. They are a demanding company and since their engines have gone high-tech in a very big way, recently, I imagine they are even more demanding than before.
Motorcraft is made by Conoco in the United States.

Kendall Oil = Motocraft Oil = Very Good Oil
Ford beat the snot out of that engine design on Motorcraft oil. You have nothing to worry about.
