I was at my local march today as well, and was quite proud of these kids for putting down their phones for a second, and standing up for their LIVES! (It's ABOUT TIME that they woke up to the autocratic fascism rampant in this land currently!)

Their speeches to the crowd were very eloquent, assertive, DIRECT, and FIRED UP, with many of them very close to voting age.
THEY will not allow far right wingnutter extremists to stop them, either NOW with their voices, nor once they can pull that lever/push that button, or fill out that paper ballot!

The statement that gets me is: We teenagers demand "safety" and the govt is responcible to provide this to us. Banning Assault rifles will make us safer.

My how times have changed. When I was a teenager...the government gave me a machine gun and sent me to SE Asia to fight - Kill - Die for FREEDOM for a people who had fear of an oppressor.

Why are there no marches to stop teen aged drinking, teen aged smoking, teen aged distracted driiving? The "danger" from these is thousands fold greater than that of shooting. You wanna be safe?..heal thy self!

Frankly, whether you are a gun owner or a Fudd really doesn't give you any different standing than Hogg whining at the podium today.
How many slaves will you allow me to have with me?

How many slaves will you allow me to have in my home?

The constitution can be amended as the world changes and modernizes.

People need to get together and study and discuss facts and come up with reasonable solutions. But our Red government won't allow it to be studied.

I assume you are referring to Republicans as Red, and Democrats as Blue.

I realize you are young and naive, so this is no doubt news to you: Not too long ago, Republicans were depicted as Blue, and Democrats as Red. Then Democrats who run most of the Network News in this Country decided that the Red made them look unfavorable, so they switched the Republican Party to being represented as angry Red, and Democrats as super friendly Blue...

Not too long ago the super duper friendly blue team controlled all branches of Government. Why didn't it get studied then???

You have been successfully indoctrinated.

PRECISELY!

Of course IF they were marching for heavily armed, inter-mountain west (and elsewhere) ARYAN militias, the support would be overwhelming on here!

Autocratic facism was the hallmark of the previous administration, as well as intolerance, racism, socialism, and blatant, unfettered corruption. Shame on these kids for wanting their own rights taken away, as well as all the law-abiding citizens whos rights they are trying to infringe upon. No "far right wingnutter" will stop them- the Bill of Rights loving American voter will stop them, along with the Leftist authoritarians who are using children as pawns to advance their drive towards a socialist police state. Social liberalism is a mental disorder.

I got a nice 6 hour drive from the DC March back to long island NY. I felt it was important to take my teenage daughter and five of her friends to this March for our lives event.I paid for all expenses for these kids including one night in a hotel. This is there battle to fight but I'm willing to help how I can.I am proud of all these kids and gives me hope for this generation. Also my 2018 traverse really shines on long trips.

and there will be laws regarding confiscation of firearms, gun registration and background checks. Buying a used gun direct from a co-worker... will no longer be allowed as you will need to have a background check and have the firearm registered.

None of those things would have stopped ANY of the recent school shootings.

Drew,

Unfortunately you’re right and the next mass shooter probably already has their weapon, ammunition and magazines.

A syco will always find a way to hurt other people. The recent TX serial bomber had no prior criminal background, and nobody saw any strange behavior to alarm law enforcement that he might "go off". Same with the Las Vegas shooter at the concert mass shooting. There are probably thousands of potential sycos brewing right now for a "go off" in the future.

Since it will virtually be impossible to find and stop these "brewing sycos", the only thing society can really do is become more "locked down" with good security at schools, malls, theaters, churches, sports games etc where lots of people are gathered. Look at the places that most mass shootings have occurred.

So then what do you label THIS current all but NAZI REGIME, which is moving to take away FAR MORE rights than any other administration ever even attempted to do?

These kids' still have a FIRST AMENDMENT RIGHT (remember, it was put BEFORE the ONLY ONE YOU, and most of the others on here care about for a REASON!) to speak their mind (just as it is for you to be as 'faschy' as you will).

THEIR right to breathe 'trumps' your right to own as many 10 to 100 round per second capable weapons of WAR, and the ammo to supply them, as you wish.
As per how the amendments were written, since that seems to always be the 'Founding Fathers' argument, yup, you can have as many muzzle-loader flintlocks, and their respective rounds, as you can fit in your home/storage area.

IF the idea of .223 rounds ripping apart the bodies of 5 year olds with painful shock waves of impact in Newtown, Ct. did not bother you in the least, then you truly ARE a member of the Waffen SS.

The Fourth Reich is a DISEASE in this land which WILL BE eradicated once those who fully endorse it are in the vast minority, and we get rid of the Electoral College which enables it.

The National Safety Council estimate that approximately 11 teens die every day due to texting and driving. We're 82 days into the year, meaning roughly ~900 teens have died this year in a vehicle because the driver was texting on a cell phone. Where's their outrage? Perhaps its time to ban cell phone sales to those under the age of 21. Want to see these kids reverse course quickly when one of the liberties they actually care about it threatened?

Again, I'm not saying we shouldn't have a reasonable discussion about guns and more importantly school safety. But this all stinks more of a politically motivated policy grab by the major players than it does about a genuine societal discussion. And for the record, I am not a gun owner.

When I countered that wasn't the case...that's what they've been told...retired professional from another state, and girl in year 10 currently...these people are being downloaded with thoughts that aren't theirs.

Yes, there's been no shortage of that parroting over the years. I was always told how anyone could just get a select-fire M16 by mail.

You don't get to make that ridiculous and inflammatory leap without being called out. How dare you accuse anyone of not caring about innocent people being killed by a lunatic. The difference is that those of us with some common sense, realize it is a PEOPLE problem, not the inanimate object or method some lunatic chooses to use to kill.

I went to Home Depot today. Where were the marches protesting the Rental trucks that any lunatic can (and has) rent(ed), and use(d) to mow down crowds of people? Anyone that isn't marching there is clearly a member of the SS, right?

Look at Oz in 1996...we had Port Arthur, then two days later had hundreds of pages of legislation that was already prepared, waiting for an opportunity to table it.

Thanks.
I am not in a position to donate money right now, but the NRA is on my list for when I am out of debt and have money to throw around.

I agree! There is a mental problem and it's getting bigger. Let's blame cars for drunk drivers and forks for making people fat.

Sounds like Florida. The bodies were still laying on the floor and the politicians were rolling out legislation.
