Anyone visit junkyards?

I guess the late model vehicles get fixed and thrown back on the road. I figured the totaled ones would be at the junk yard, but I guess they get fixed too.
Trucks are an interesting commodity at auction. Many third world countries try to buy up high mileage diesel trucks, strip the emissions equipment and sell them in places like Ghana. The Grand Tour had an episode and yeah it was comical but when they went to Mozambique it showed the true scale of how few roads are paved.

There used to be a guy on the Xterra forum - "Ramness" - think he was in Atlanta. He liked to frequent the yards. If you needed some obscure part you could ask, if he found one he would pull it, and ship it to you.

I'd imagine they make a non emission version they sell to countries with less emissions. I recently learned they still make brand new 2 stroke outboards they sell to other countries, they quit making 10 years ago here in the US.

I’m lucky that even my older cars are nicer than the ones in the junkyard. Not sure they have anything I could use.

I used to go with my brother years ago for Jeep and Camry parts.

Idk, it may have been that particular yard I went to, but nothing at that yard was anything that had been on the one in the past 20 years. Those cars were probably sitting there for 20 years.

I saw a complete Cadillac Allante with matching hard top. Those go for 3-4 grand aftermarket. They had no idea what they cost or what car parts cost.

Here the cars are only there for a few months before they get scrapped and they get a new batch.

Are you in a small town?

One other thing - I will say that I used to find the idea of self-serve junkyards pretty daunting. I didn't know what to expect and I stayed away. It's not really a friendly environment and they are found in the bad parts of town. Staying away was a mistake! For some things they are way cheaper than the alternative.

Now that I'm more comfortable with going, I think I'm going to get more battery-power impacts just because I end up "down in the dumps" so often.
