Anyone own a newer BMW M2?

I was always surprised that the Competition models were automatic only now with an 8 speed slush box yuck.
That’s not true, there are plenty of Competition models in Canada with the 6 speed manual

Maybe I was thinking of the M3 which apparently the cs and competition are auto only.
I believe you are referencing the current M3/M4 (G80/G82), which is auto in Comp & CS form and manual in the base version.

You could get a manual in all 3 flavors of the F87 M2 (Original aka "OG", Comp, CS), but the M3/M4 (F80/F82) CS/GTS of this era were DCT only, Base and Comp could be had in manual.

Objectively, the DCT/Auto matches the turbo engine better.

I’m thinking about leasing a 2025 M2 with auto transmission.

Are these cars reliable with just oil changes for lease term ?
You will be fine. The F-gen M2/M3/M4 has proven to be pretty solid overall, and the S55 ones particularly are very robust (cooling, oiling, closed deck, etc.) which also applies to the new G-gen and the S58/ZF 8-spd combo.

I thought and almost positive that on bmwusa website the F87 M2 cs was auto or dct only but could be wrong. I know that on occasion the USA vs Canadian version of the same vehicle can be different. According to an article on Jalopnik the Canadian Honda Civic si is based on the more premium civic whereas the usa civic si is based on the base model an not as well appointed.

I agree on the M240i; particularly if it's never going to see the track.
I've tracked my M240i. Once you get the tire pressures right the car is a monster. Just replace the pads with track-friendly pads such as Performance Friction -08 pads. I've got PF-08 pads on my car and I'll do ~125mph on the back straight of Virginia International Raceway and not hit the brakes until the 200' marker. The car just handles that 125mph to 25mph like it's nothing. And that's lap after lap.

I tracked my F22 M235i as well; what I was trying to say was that the M240i isn’t as track-focused as the M2 so if you aren’t taking it to an HPDE frequently it’s often the better choice.

You could have had an F87 M2 CS with a manual, in fact, for the US, 70% were ordered as manual. A very cool breakdown here of colors and options: https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1789651

Probably more reliable than usual suspects. Usual suspects had to enter turbo era, and found out quickly that it is different ball game than selling 30yrs old engine designs.
B58 proved to be one of most reliable 6cyl, and will have most reliable transmission.

My son sold his Chevy SS Sport sedan LS3 V8 six speed and got a 2025 BMW M2 six speed. He loves the M2 but says the V8 sounded better and had instant torque al low rpm. The M2 needs a few RPM and half a second for the turbo

These M2 can easily be tuned and break 500 at the rear wheels.

Yes, an LS3 sounds great especially with exhaust and cam.

Heater pulls heat from the very efficient engine which already is known to take a long time to get to operating temp. This makes the warmup cycle longer even while gently driving, and also causes the idle stop start not to work since the engine has to stay running to keep the heater on. Both of those hurt fuel economy outside of the general guise of winter blend fuel, cold air density, and windier conditions of the season.

He is working on a exhaust system over the Christmas break
