Hi All,

I left for work last night and noticed a note written in permanent marker under my wiper blade that said " I pay top dollar for junk cars. Call so and so". My neon has sat for a while and am not sure if I can get a new transmission rebuild kit installed. I did find a local non-profit that has great reviews that refurbish vehicles for low income single parents / families. I'm curious has anyone ever called and had good results with an "I buy junk car " type of deal? My gripe is alot of those places immediately scrap the vehicle once the converter or other valuable parts get removed. The tires are essentially brand new as I had put replacement Continental tires on it.

There are a couple people that are on the local towns Facebook page that are constantly posting "we buy junk cars". Seems they post every other day.

They actually wrote on your car in marker? That would be vandalism and trespassing. Sign there number up for every spammer you can?

Kid ran the Xterra into someone before Christmas. All cosmetic - but smashed the front clip and puked all the fluids. Had it towed home, decided it was toast and called one of those guys. They said they would give me $75.00 to pick it up. :ROFLMAO: I would hitch the dogs up and drag it to LKQ myself first.

Decided to fix it. $1000 in used parts and its all fixed pretty much except the seat belts, air bags and AC. I figure that will cost an another $1000. Grifters all of them.

I'm guessing there's no vehicle inspection where you live.
I already bought the kid another car. I am planning to fix everything and its not being driven except for test, if that is what your inferring. But no - no inspection - so in theory it could be driven now. :ROFLMAO:

Its a hobby project. So there is no budget, and no schedule. My kind of project.

Everything is all about making money. Does anyone think a middleman buying your car to scrap it nets you more money than just calling scrap yards yourself for the highest payer? That is about as dumb as selling your home to someone on TV running an AD "we buy houses".

I'm Jewish, big deal. Google exactly "Kars4kids where does the money go" and look at the AI result.

Pick and Pull paid us roughly $350/car for a Nissan Pulsar and a Ford Aerostar that both had been sitting for at least 20 years. And they picked them up. $75 is ridiculous.

We had a guy do this to my Beetle, my truck and our van and Jeep and then we didn’t call so one weekend the guy shows up and wants to only give us $200 for each car we are like uh no dude you are dreaming and why are you on our property for anyways.
Maybe bcs those vehicles need to be sold - just not for $200

I have a 2008 and a 2014. I would have fixed it too. Those are keepers. Some of the best Nissans ever made.
That $75 offer was an insult. The scrap value is better than that. If I was looking for an Xterra on a low budget I would have bought that car from you with a starting offer of $1000 then worked up from there.

Not a chance in hell I'll be letting either of my Xterras go in this automotive apocalypse we're in today.
My SO ridiculed and threatened me for the last 15 years for "holding on to my old junk cars".
Now all her friends are constantly telling her of their nightmares with their new cars and how they WISH they had kept their old vehicles and fixed them instead.

She finally sees the light. Now I'm a "genius" for keeping them. women.

No I'll have to post a picture. They wrote on printer paper in permanent marker then put that under my wiper blade.

With new tires, consistent oil changes, new pads, and brake shoes, brake fluid. It should be worth $1500 ish I'd hope. Yeah it had regular transmission fluid changes.

Your Neon most likely will be sold for scrap metal.
It's possible it might end up in a pick your parts lot.
Unless someone who has a Neon transmission on hand and just needs a good body buys it.

Put it on craigslist and hope such a person sees it.
Those have good gas mileage and parts are still in junk yards.
Good grab for the right person. New cars are no longer a viable option for most.

I'm tempted to call but don't know if it's a scam or one of those cheap junk buyers. If I use the charity then I can write off up to $500.
You typically cannot take the charitbable tax deduction unless your itemizing your expenses anyway. Most people do not anymore with the 2017 increased standard deduction.

Best bet is take it to the wrecker yourself if it moves at all or you have a way to move it, or just sell it on craigslist or whatever.

Are you itemizing?

I used Peddle to junk one years ago, there is a thread on here as I was not sure at the time if they were legit. Got a few $100 for it.
