I've been using mostly Amsoil lately with Wix or NAPA Gold Filters on my '03 GMC Sierra, 5.3L with 95,000 miles.

It's hard to explain and I'm not sure if you know what I mean, but I changed out the Amsoil "Early" - with only 5,900 miles on it & the MAPA Gold.

I usually run the Amsoil 8,000, but it seems like you can "hear or feel" like the Oil needs to be changed... The engine may sound different, may hear some tapping at start-up, etc.

Anyone else experience this & change 'er out early...?

I fight this urge all the time! It's so hard for me to go till my 5k OCI. I don't personally notice any real signs that I need to change it. I guess it's that oil freak in me...

Oh, that may be part of it too!

Feel the unnecessary engine "strain"

It "just doesn't sound quite right"

Anyone else find this & change early...?

Yea im debating to change mine since this is my first six month change with my Amsoil Series 2000 with EAO34 filter only because im doing alot more city driving and more short trips than i used too with 4K on the oil it still looks pretty good but i may stick it out when spring rolls around. After spring ill be sticking with Series 3000 since its alittle more robust.

You & me (pointing eyes to eyes), we're right here.

All the time. Most recently, my girl was digging in my a$$ about going out to change my oil when it seems like "you just did it a month & 1/2 ago."

Whatever! No better way to inspect the car especially since the cold prevents me from going over everything.

A break in the weather allowed me to tighten up my ride... and I feel better about it.

Some will say you're wasting money, but there are times whem my car zen, my car mojo, prompts me to change out early... more often than not.

Plus, this time, I had GC waiting for me... and the Supertech needed to go before the real cold came to town.

Gonna try and leave the GC in the car for 6k (3 cases in the stash).

It's the oil freak in us all.

On my older cars, early oil changes surely quiets the engine and smooths them out slightly - something I do feel. But on a newer engine, below 50K, I feel no difference after an oil change.

I can tell when the oil needs changing in my VW 1.8T. The way I know is when I'm in boost, instead of hearing the turbo go "Schwooosh", I hear "Sheeeeear". Then I change it. Usually happens at 5274 miles.

The only times I get the urge to change it earlier than I should is when I'm anxious to get a different oil in one my cars to begin the next round of testing, and on that first run with the new oil in order to get the first UOA sooner.

I start thinking about a change when I start to feel a sluggish, hesitant response from my engine. Not sure how to explain it other than it feels like 'it doesn't wanna'. My Civics displayed this the most, usually around 3K and new oil made such a difference in how they ran.

I'm like gudkarma, a break in the weather helps with the motivation. I like a mid-winter change so the "abuse" of fuel dilution etc is spread over two OCIs. The driveway was ice-free and I got some synthetic in just in time for some subzero temps.

Reading this thread, I realized that I could technically change oil as early as next weekend, instead of having to wait for mid- to late February. I'm doing 4-month intervals, and I last changed it during the first week of October. Whoo-hoo!

I am indeed fighting that urge right now. I'm doing my first 6,000 mile OCI. It will be over a year before I do the change. So I'm driving double the miles I have in the past and it will be a little over a year. Talk about having to fight the urge! It's killing me!

i was thinking of ditching some mobil 1 with only 3k miles on it but then i realized it was only 39 degrees outside and i came to my senses.

I can relate completely. I've got 5,700mi on M1 0w-20 in my civic, and i'm thinking about doing a mid-winter change for a few reasons. Not because of the way the car feels or seems, but just because of the conditions the car sees, and the fact that i went a little longer than i wanted to on my last oci. But it's been far too cold lately for me to change it, so i guess its gonna have to wait.

I ran GC oil in my 2004 honda accord 2.4 for only 5200 miles. I remember the day when I decided to change it out. I got lost in Baltimore and ended up on a street location for the television show: "The Wire." I traveled many miles in stop and go traffic on these "benign" streets and I noticed general sluggishness in pickup from stoplite to stoplite. I changed the oil out immediately to a less viscous oil so would be prepared for a quick getaway the next time I get lost in Fort Apache.

Did it (reluctantly) with the AMO on the ZX-11D with "only 3,500 miles" on the oil because it had been in there for two winters...

Probably was overkill, but I put in a quart of their 20W-50 and 2 1/2 quarts of Chevron Supreme 20W-50 to get me to the 30K major service, only 1,600 miles away.

Let's see if I can "keep the faith" on the AME that's in the '91 420SEL for the planned 15K interval, with oil filter replacements at 10K intervals (easy to do on a W126 V8 because the canister filter is up "on top").

Cheers!
