Phaser rattle with pennzoil

Hi I'm new to the forum and I just wanted to share my experience running Pennzoil platinum and Pennzoil ultra in my personal vehicles. I've run Moble 1 synthetic for many years and always felt confident doing so. I kept hearing people rave about pennzoil so I figured I would try it out! At first my 3.5 ecoboost explorer sounded great, very quiet! My cammed and supercharged gmc sierra sounded the same but once I hit around 3,000 miles in the explorer started the dreaded cam phaser rattle! I decided to change it immediately and I used ultra platinum this time and 2,000 miles later same thing but worse! Again I changed it immediately back to mobile 1 and made it to my 5,000 mile interval with zero noise! Also my GMC is sounding noisy with around 2,000 miles on the pup as well but maybe now I'm paranoid! Has anyone else experienced this?
This thread has a certain amount of irony due to the plethora of threads about "noisy" M1 is compared to XYZ. I dunno. I'm suspicious of your intentions. ;)

I really appreciate all the information from everyone! I definitely agree on the cam phaser design flaw and they are known for having problems. It is strange the two oil changes back to back (with shorter intervals of course) had the noise on cold start but now has went a full 5,000 miles on previous Mobile 1 and a few hundred miles on current Mobile 1 with zero noise. I will absolutely do an oil analysis and see what it says!

It does, and since there is no mention of a CEL, a UOA would be beneficial imo.

What grade oil are you running? 5W30 multigrade?

Mobile 1 is an Android 12 lube, I would not use that in a truck!

I might suggest Mobil 1 10W30 High Mileage

For my Explorer I use 5w30 truck and suv and my truck I use 0w20 truck and suv. What do you mean when you say android 12 lube? I've thought about changing to a little thicker oil in my truck since I'm running boost now but I wasn't sure if I should!

I have a 2019 f150 3.3 it does have the cam phasers. I run two years of dealer oil changes and pushing 3 on Pennzoil Platinum 5w20. Sounds and runs great. I change my oil once a year or 5000 miles. **** that OLM. Wardawg

Maybe just kidding with spelling Mobil like a mobile phone …

Thank you to those who took the time to post actual helpful info! I really wanted to see if anyone had experienced the same thing I had and if it was just something I had done. I think there are a lot of good oils out there and many variables (including engine health) that determine your outcome or experience so maybe this is just my personal experience but it's still made me feel a certain kind of way!
