with missing your scheduled OCI.Start buying Fram filters immediatley, and start looking for 70 weight non detergent rerefined engine oil. After these drastic steps you will be able to do an OC with anything laying around in the garage{even topping of with slick 50!!!}Soon you will be able to run 2 qts low with pride, while looking hard at that window sticker that says your 2k overdue. We run Cat C7's on bulk 15w40{dont even know who makes it,I think Fuchs},and miss OCI's all the time.Havent had an oil related failure yet{unless you count pumping it all out on the ground as oil related}.The new Cats dont last long enough to wear out,so its probably not a fair comparison!!!

Yes, with Amsoil, 8k is "early".

I still cannot bring myself to go over 8k with my Amsoil !!

As previously discussed, I can probably go 10-12k on my GMC Truck, but I get too nervous at 7.5k

Is there any cure, or are we doomed......??

Reasons I've changed oil early:

1] If the engine had truly severe service... sustained WOT or sustained operation at or near redline or gross vehicle capacity, maximum capacity towing, high ambient temps, lots of short trips or idling in cold weather, or dusty/off road driving.

2] I was unsure of the exact mileage of last oil change.. this can happen when you have many vehicles in different states.

3] I have the time or access to the vehicle and it is close to the end of the interval.

4] There was a mechanical or electronic problem with the system that could affect the lubricant.

5] A heat wave or especially severe use is expected in the near future, and it is close to the end of the OCI anyway.

Now if i can only figure out a cheap way to change my auto tranny fluid, then i can truly sleep well...

get a motive brand fluid extractor and swap out 2-3 quarts of trans fluid at each oil change. Your fluid will stay clean continously.
