Any other BITOG'ers give away oil?

I'd be drowning in oil if I did not give it to friends and family. I have to trim the odd oils from the stash so I can use the same brand oils for my cars regularly. I also have the 80G of Delo 30, well, 30G. It works great and costs me $1/g. I really only collect unusual oils to stash myself, like 20 weights, GC, Saab oil, M1 0w-30 SL that has been sitting here forever.

The young kids in the family get some decent oil out of me free. I admit that I'm trying to get them "into it" and still the rule applys that they get oddball oils, like Havoline Semi-syn, and RP. I just can't bring myself to charge them for it. I remember my older relatives helped me once or twice on my cars and I really appreciated it.

My kids get it for free, but it's the dino stuff I get on sale. Just filled my oldest son's car with the $.69/qt. stuff I got on sale last year

Not bad oil though... 76 Synthetic Blend 10w30 SM.

I gave my friend Kelli the 5 quart jug of M1 I decided not to use. Her poor car had NO oil in it when I checked it after work one night. Man that car sounded like it was about to kick the bucket!

Nope... it's called "76 Super Synthetic Blend" ILSAC GF-4, API SM, SL. Says it "exceeds GM 6094M and Daimler Chrysler MS-6395N.

I gave him the oil for free as he's having a hard time with his bills lately. I figure it's the least I could do to help.

It got me thinking, do you all give away oil in your shrine?

You friend came to your garage for an oil change - without any oil?

Or did you offer the friend use of your garage and free oil - prior to arriving?

it was offered to him prior to his arrival. He's in tough financial times now. Plus, he's always had an ear for my oil habit, unlike most who tune oil out.

I try to give it away but no one will take it! I'm about the only person I know who changes their own oil and those that don't, don't want to take quarts in to Jiffy Lube.

Matter of fact, I got laughed at this weekend by some friends for having a stash. One said, what's the point when it's only $20 at Jiffy Lube???

And this was from a supposed "car nut" with a purdy nice Mustang GT.....

Oh well, more for me.....

With that 'tude He's not a car nut, he's a clueless appliance operator who happens to own a nice appliance.

I even topped off a rental van. It was 2 quarts low. I had to go from Omaha to SLC and the oil monitor was at zero and I seriously considered changing the oil !!!! (you know--for the future owner of van). Then I realized they were charging me $120 for a 1 day 1 way rental and that sobered me up. Still topped it off though.

True, true. To make it worse, the guy's an engineer. Oh well...

And I think I already related the story of trying to give my father Castrol for my mother's V-6 Accord. He said "Castrol is only for 4 cylinder cars."

Needless to say, my mother calls me with car questions and leaves my father to work (often unsucessfully) on the lawn mowers.

Now that is the only use I get other than my personal vehicles. I have been know to slip some Neutra or arx into my work Colorado. So you all should thank me for taking such good care of the vehicle your tax dollars bought me.

I hope he's a software engineer or something like that.

Well, if you ask Bruce his personal vehicle lubrication habits, you would be shocked. ..well maybe not shocked ..more like the classic "mechanic's car" ..too busy fixing everyone else's ..last thing he wants to do is tinker with his own. I think he does extended OCI's with heavy oil. I don't think that they're really extended OCI's ..much like not shaving isn't the same as growing a beard.

btw- the senior engineer for the whole 13 plants (process/chemical engineer) drove a beater and put as little money into it as he could. My old Tempo rolled into it in the parking lot (brain episode - didn't apply parking brake and didn't put it in gear) ..and he could have cared less. He probably had a premier car for other functions .. I guess the scrubbers puking out dye particles and putting little spots of color on the paint might have been part of decision process for using a beater.
