Another salvage Lexus GX470

What's the use case for it if you "win"? Gonna build a desert runner / off road machine? The GX470 you have is really nice if I remember the last set of pictures correctly.

I am a "factory only" guy. Will repair to factory specs, and do things like put in new OEM headlights. Dealers like Bell Lexus in Scottsdale, AZ make buying OEM Lexus parts very affordable, with deep discount pricing and free shipping.

Not sure what I will do with it, my current GX470 runs flawlessly, also a salvage purchase.

I have no problem with factory only; in fact, that pretty much describes my philosophy.

I see tired paint and seats. Both are generally expensive to correct properly if that is the end goal. You seem to like your cars to present themselves well. Your other GX470 looked pretty good in the "before" photos, except for the accident damage that you corrected. I could be misremembering, as it's been a few years. This one doesn't look as nice in the "before" photos.

200k miles is not a problem, as you know.

There is no issue with the Toyota 4.7 V8 running flawlessly; that is what they do, almost regardless of how well or not-well they have been maintained.

You also have to be careful as Toyota is discontinuing the production of many parts. I have found maintaining a 1st gen Tundra 4.7 V8 with all OE Toyota parts is much more difficult -- no more brake master cylinders and numerous trim parts, for example.

Not sure how much Venn diagram overlap there is between your two recent threads, millionaires/billionaires and excess salvage cars that one must pay storage fees. I guess there's at least a little overlap for @GON :)

Unlike Ford, Lexus not only has new OEM seat skins available, Lexus still has complete new OEM seats available. The new seats are pricey, about $4k USD if I recall, but install a new driver seat in a GX 470 and one might be good for many years.

I actually have a new GX470 OEM seat bottom/ cover I have yet to install. I do like "new" seats in my salvage fleet.

This vehicle under $3k USD is likely a steal. Based on the pictures, my assessment is this vehicle needs under one day work by a amateur like me to make the damage go away and go away to near factory specs.

Opportunity. My assessment is the vehicle is rock solid. At a certain price, hard to pass up a desirable vehicle. I would have fixed and given the vehicle to someone.

I lost the auction, which is fine. Nice to "not have to win". Copart doesn't show final sold price, I was outbid at $2100. The vehicle appeared very fixable. What was reported as front frame damage I suspect was in fact damage to the impact mounts, which are super easy to replace. With all the young guys upgrading and lifting these, the front bumper, front bumper skin, etc very cheap and readily available. Only challenge would be a used hood, but color is very popular so hood wouldn't be to hard to find.
 
It looks like it hit a tree or pole, the bumper cover likely bounced back and is hiding a lot of damage. All the crash energy in one spot like that, I can see frame damage as a strong possibility.

I posted on BITOG pictures of the energy absorption mounts on this model Lexus. Awesome design. No airbag went off. Winner of the auction did very well as long as they didn’t overpay.

Highly doubt any frame or structural damage.
