Another place to spray rust preventer - Torsion Bars

Nissan used them in the Xterra. Made is super easy to raise the front an inch to level it out, assuming proper care given to the wee little adjusting bolts. I find them an elegant solution for front suspensions, though not certain how easy they are to swap to different spring rates. OP makes a good point, rust in these would be a stubborn issue.
 
Think about it, a with an upper and lower A-arm suspension, a coil spring won't work with a 4x4 because that's right where the axle half shaft comes out! So it's either torsion bars if you have an upper and lower A-arm style suspension, or a coil over shock style which looks like a strut but actually isn't, or a live axle like a Jeep Wrangler or Ram 2500.
It's much easier to change shocks on an upper and lower A-arm design with torsion bars than the now more common coil over shock design, which is every bit as much as a pain as struts are. The live axle design used by Jeep, Ram and Ford is also easy to change shocks on. The coil over shock makes that a project and one I won't do myself.
 
Not sure what warranted revival from five years ago, but in the category of trivia and pedantic: a coil spring is also actually a torsion spring. Our brains think a coil goes up/down, but mechanically they twist as they compress or extend.

On the 4th photo I cannot believe how tight that hex end of torsion bar fits in to the body mount fitting. On my 2001 Chev. Silverado I always thought it was almost a defect because there was like at least a 1/16 - 1/8 inch clearance like the factory messed up.
