Another leaking bypass valve

The disc is installed upside down. That ridge fits perfectly in the hole and would block it if installed correctly.
I get that. I'm speaking of the retainer unit (aka "spring", the stamped sheet metal piece than can have ripples) and the fit in the filter element center tube..........the typical leak path. Not yer screwed up actual valve.

Chris, how much were these? Have you ever used the super tech equivalent? I may go that route soon
Iirc about $35. Not a lot but a lot to just throw away.

They are for our Toyota fjcruiser. It's filter sits threads down and it's very particular about filters that drain over night. Sounds terrible when started when they do.

I have not tried a ST lately as I don't get to Walmart often. Mainly because they no longer selI guns or ammo...... borring! Idid go last week and there were no 3614 or 3600 filters in stock .

The st equivalent looks quite good and it’s under $4 a piece iirc. Walmart ships free with orders over $35

You don't think that having the oil go through there would push the disc up more and open the hole up even more?
The dP across the disk would still have to be enough to make the spring compress more and open the valve more. So even with a leak, it's not going to open any more unless there is enough dP to make it open more.

I wasn't talking about the typical ruffled area of the a leaf spring flatness in post 21. I was talking about the structure the bypass disk and spring sits in. In post 1 it looked like the flat bypass disk was not seating down all the way while under spring pressure, and now the OP has clarified that was the case because the disk was installed backwards. So ultimately, the disk wasn't seating all the way down, causing the leak gap.

Unfortunate because the rest of the filter looks very well made.

I might have missed it, but did you contact the seller or the company to inform them that the bypass disk was installed backwards?

No. According to others the box of filters came from a supplier that buys case lots of whatever and resells it.

I doubt that person would know how to install a filter much less identify a problem with one. Only a weirdo like myself would think to cut a filter open to inspect it.

With my luck if I sent the remaining ones back those would be ok . Only way to know is to cut em open.

Wonder if Premium Guard would like to know about this since it's their filter. Shouldn't matter where you bought them from. Can't hurt to contact Premium Guard and see what they say. They may like to know a production quality issue like this can happen and look into it. Might even send you replacement filters.

I don't think they are PG made.No shrink wrap on the bottom and no leak tested on top.
I was going off of post 1 where you said they were PG made, but now see you updated info in post 7 saying they are Service Champ. Then contact Service Champ ... the basic gist is contact whoever made the filters to see what they think of this production mistake.

Seems Service Champ is already aware of the production issue and chose to offload the mistakes onto somebody else to recoup the pennies it took to manufacture. Long gone are the companies who would have junked these because it was "the right thing to do".

I'm thinking these were defective and caught by qc. Somehow they ended up on eBay.

I can't use them in good faith knowing what I found . Figure an hour of my pay at work thrown away
Man, send them back for a refund, am I missing something here? If a couple out of the box are NG the whole box is considered junk from a consumer standpoint.
