Believe me, I don't sit here all day trying to think up new forums. However, as I enjoy the existing PCMO/HDEO Fourm, I realize it's mostly about brands and types (say catagories) of motor oil, not really a lot of genuine chemical, physical and hard science info there. Where it exists, it's pretty far scattered and diffused by the static of hoarding, brand-bashing, personal insights ...et al. Not that we are not all guilty of all that, but real tech questions go unanswered or are unresearchable. A for example: "Can/do additves affect HT/HS?" I had to bump my own question twice and still go no answer. It's a good question that a few people here can either answer from knowledge or just intelligently speculate on. Anyway, I know there is a "Tech" Forum already, but my suggestion is maybe as sub forum(s) something specific to Additives and Basestocks. A lot of good info can collect there, stuff that is now dispersed in VOA, UOA and other Forums. We see a lot of posts already on the PCMO/HDEO Forum about basestocks, other questions on additives come up on UOA Forum. If you think about it, a lot of older, classic, informative threads abound that could be linked or moved there. Moly, Antimony/Sodium, ZDDP, EOP, PAO, Groupe Bases, Metallurgy, HC Process...MANY others. Easiest might just to be making sub-Forums under Tech, somehow just beef up that dead slow area (which now contains a total of 25 threads) with the best non-brand babble info from BitOG. Just an idea, thanks. Members might just want to start posts there that link to the very best tech discussions (Additives or Base Oils) as they come across older "classic" threads, if the Mods think that is ok. ps- I do not mean a 100 "Mobil 1 Basestocks" threads, just the one or two that has some scientific basis.

I read a lil further into the "Science and Techology or Lubricants and Additives" Forum and feel like a lot of good subjects are well-covered. It would [censored] it up to link a bunch of threads about Mobil 1 and stuff into it. So, now I feel like my suggestion might be a mistake. The only way it would make sense is to lock the existing good threads or pin them sticky on top and then try to get the ball rolling with new posts, moved or linked ones. It's just a shame to see the PCMO/HDEO Forums get SO jammed with redundant questions and posts when there are good ones buried within there AND the fact the there is a "Hard Science" Forum that is under-utilized. I know there could be a consensus on pumping-up the "Tech" Section, question is just how to do it.

I agree. When I find technical articles, I usually put them in the PCMO forum for two reasons: I think the people in PCMO are in most need of real education AND the tech forum doesn't get much traffic. This is not ideal though. The tech forum needs to stand out more and get more traffic.

I saw that post, it's a great article that answers a lot of questions about home blending, oil additives and such...questions that get asked over and over again. IMO, it's exactly what belongs in the Tech section because if left in PCMO/HDEO Forum, it'll get lost in the sauce.

I think the answer is more reference links to the Tech Forum when people ask questions which are covered there.

Linking in general is probally the best service a member can do on the Forums. I was thinking this when seeing VOAs on Euro oils and thinking about posts on the Import oils Forum asking about that particular oil, nobody went ahead and linked the VOA to it, people just made a lot of anecdotal remarks.
