BITOG isn't what it used to be

Other than the board being much bigger, with many new and different members, I really haven't seen much change since the early 2000's. What I mean is the same basic questions are still asked (and yes, the info DOES change with time), and the same type of "Knowledgeable" types are still posting, albeit with different names and in some cases different personalities. The board is IMHO more heavily moderated than in the past, but of course with more members, this is expected. I think alot of older posters have disappeared because of answering the same questions over again, and not being able to accept the changes and the fact that maybe some newcomers have better or more accurate ideas and opinions, among other reasons. But I have also seen several that feel theirs is the holy word and no other opinions or facts are relevant. Others, simply could not take the growth. Whatever the reasons, In my case, I still learn something new every time I get on here. I'm not letting my ego get in the way just because I have been here since the "early days" (which reminds me, some of you old-timers might remember the forum was here before 2002, that our registered date got messed up when they changed the forum type).

I agree entirely. However, I still obsess more than I should about it and talk about many of the same things I did years ago. I am more interested now in just keeping up with the latest trends in motor oil. And occasionally slaying an Amsoil guy here and there.

+1 - totally agree with this and it is not just a BITOG thing; this exists on every Internet forum. I cannot speak to what the board "used to be like" but if one is willing to read the vernacular and perform a little legwork on their own. the chaff and wheat are quickly separated.

I have learned an enormous amount of information here and I hope in some small part that I have contributed to the knowledge pool as well. Folks like Jim Allen, DNewton, Overk1ll, Tig1, Artem, Johnny, Pablo, Addyguy, DParm, KCJeep, Arcographite to name a few (as well as others) have all contributed to the information that I wanted/needed, answered many questions, or steered me towards a "deal".

There will always be differences of opinions, but as long as we do not twist the facts to fit the situation, I believe the board is instrumental in providing sound information--past and present.

Maybe, maybe not. But that does lead me to another point, with respect to others mentioning points being hashed and rehashed. Formulations change, brands change, so there's always something interesting to discuss.
