I use (insert search topic here) site:bobistheoilguy.com to search BITOG posts, I just put that into the regular Google online search engine, for example,
"synthetic motor oil site:bobistheoilguy.com" or "how to get rid of computer virus site:bobistheoilguy.com" in a Google search. It works a lot better than the Google search function here on BITOG. It has helped me find other posts related to what I am looking for. It also keeps me from stepping on anyone's toes and getting a "do a search" or "that has already been discussed ten times, look here, here and here" type of response. No matter what problem I may have or what I may be trying to fix, chances are pretty good that someone has already posted about it here.
I have learned a lot here on BITOG, not just about oil and automotive info. I learned more about computers and how they work and how to fix computer problems in the BITOG computer forum than I have ever learned from regular internet searches. Plus what I learn here is usually in plain English, so I understand and assimilate it better.
The sales and promotions section has saved me a lot of money. I never knew about AAP's discount codes until I read about them here. Now that I learned about online discounts here, if I buy anything online I always do a search for online coupons first.
www.retailmenot has a lot of good valid online discount codes and coupons.
I try to ignore the argumentative and know-it-all type posts and self-righteous posts from those who are holier than thou. I learned about MMO here and I use it in my gas. I used to post about MMO here too, but I have stopped that because there are always so many posts that want to argue and point out to me that MMO is absolutely useless, has no "scientific testing results" etc. I got tired of all that so I keep my MMO info to myself.
There are posts where people get very opinionated and there are posts where people come across like they think they know it all and you know nothing. I ignore that. This is the internet and it is a free country, people can do and say what they want. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and we all know what they say about opinions.
I don't post here a lot, but I do enjoy reading some of the topics here. I like to respond to the posts where I may have some beneficial experience or info. BITOG is a good place to learn and get info on a lot of topics, not just motor oil. However, I have always believed BITOG is the absolute best motor oil site and on the internet.
