If you did your research, you would see this started in the Trump era EPA - Just the current administration is allowing it to continue unabated.

Also, boats in port have to follow current EPA rules, UNLESS they receive a waiver. I had to work on a cargo ship that had it's EGR blower "waivered" as the equipment was "blown up" by a huge electrical discharge of some sort. Ship was in port for three days, and left to head to next port for the repairs to be completed.

I did do some research previously. The legislation is Trump era. The enforcement is Biden era. And the legislation does appear to outlaw modifying street cars into racecars. It just hasn't been enforced. The RPM act is the attempt to protect the automotive modification aftermarket and racing https://www.sema.org/epa-news , but it's been languishing and hasn't passed. When I mentioned boat and airplanes, I was talking private not commercial and was think hobbyist not OE. I don't think the EPA has gone after boat or airplane tuners in the name of the Clean Air Act like it has in the Diesel/car aftermarket.

Installing defeating tech that "Fooled" the test results to show low emissions when in fact it was not up to the required compliance standard.

I would be surprised if it was the same thing VW did. But I guess we will see when more details come out.

Good. As an exhaust fabricator I get asked all the time to omit or defeat emissions devices and I send them away.

I do not need to get shut down and fined because of dumb stuff like that.

On the same token...the people that own the vehicles with the omitted emissions equipment should be really the ones that have to deal with the consequences. Just like how it is with tint (at least around here). Get pulled over with too dark tint? You get a fix it ticket to correct it. Shops do not get slapped at all.

I'm certainly no tree hugger. But when I was a kid the smog in my area was so terrible we couldn't go outside to play. Couldn't see the mountains for the brown haze.

Today there are many more cars and I can see the mountains and I have not heard of any days so bad the kids can't play outside.

The emissions controls did help a lot. Yes they can be a pain if you fail a test but in the end it's worth it. If you want to build a race car go ahead and do whatever you want. But leave the emissions parts on your street car.

They are... I've read about stories how the owner of a vehicle must put the emissions parts back onto the truck to sell it b/c they put in their listing it was deleted etc.
