Another 737 mishap

My own preference is sitting in well maintained Boeing or Airbus with a competent crew.

If you crash, even 707 wings will break.

Never had any airframe, or engine issues on the Airbus ( 22 years ).

The engines on the A320 start fast also, unlike the ones on the 737/A220. Drives me nuts getting stuck on the gate waiting for them to get their engines started after pushback and call for taxi clearance ( block us from behind our gate ). More ramp congestion at peak times I notice.

Edit: reminds me of the myth Airbus had weaker tails ( and wings I guess ) after the pilot did something pilots are not supposed to do - full , opposite, rudder reversals which snapped the tail off.

It’s a myth any Boeing tail could withstand that because no aircraft manufacturer tests the breaking point of the tail, unlike the wing spar ( mandatory for certification ).

Tails are not designed for full rudder reversals.

True. One of my concerns, is my closest airport to my home mainly flies regional routes and has the Bombadeer "narrow as a pencil" cabins and likely have lower paid pilots than the major airlines. So I sometimes drive 140 miles away to go to the big city airport, just so I can use a major airline large plane.
I've always found the crj planes to be very well engineered. They're fast and are fairly smooth considering their size. The sheer volume of there use also lends to the notion that they are a safe and well manufacture aircraft. the only downside is the size of the plane. There is one positive if you get the single and two configuration. if you get the single seat its actually quite nice.

My personal preferences are a Boeing airframe and a General Electric engine. That's just what I prefer and based solely on personal experiences.

Just as Joe Patroni said, you can take the wings off of the B707 and use it as a tank. :)

Yes, I like the old movies from the 70's and 80's - Plenty of Boeing 707's with the 4 engines and massive black exhaust coming out of them. Those were made during a time where Boeing's reputation was stellar.

You must not fly much - I do and you can’t plane shop …
In fact - was just moved from an LH Airbus to an UA Boeing bcs the Airbus got grounded …
Yes, I only fly a few times a year for vacations. Because I have a family of 7, to save money, we've been driving cross country instead of flying during some vacations. Driving is so much cheaper (Just a few hundred dollars for gasoline) as oppossed to 7 plane tickets * $500 a ticket = $3500.

The travel websites list the type of airplane, making it quick and easy to choose which plane you want if you're so inclined.

I have flown on business and vacation since 1991 and you make it sound easier than what I live through …
Driving ? Just encouraged a younger couple to vacation within driving distance - they had no idea what kind of rentals are out there these days - and when tired of the sister in law - they have their own car 😵‍💫

We just use our 8 passenger minivan (so no rental car cost to worry about).
It's just me, my wife, and 5 children, so no extended family to worry about.

Since 3 of the kids have drivers licenses, we can drive non-stop even if a 20 hour drive.
The rest of us watch movies in the center or rear row of the minivan.

I like driving, as it allows you to see the country in a more pristine way.
We schedule our driving route to avoid the big cities to avoid the crime (if we have to stop and get gas).
Also, we use the "avoid tolls" + "Prefer fuel-efficient routes" settings in google maps too.

Driving with 8 passengers, in a higher C of G minivan would even scare me🙂

Just kidding.

Yeah … I like the backroads - small towns are interesting and historical - plus the people are a good kind of nosy …

Yes me too. I will only live in far away "middle of nowhere" towns for the rest of my life.
I like the politeness and nosy in a good way people.

I commute 140 miles to my office 3 times a week, it's like 2 extremes.
Home town = no crime in 40 years, Work City = One of the highest crime rates of any city in America according to city-data.com.

I carry a decoy wallet, so if I'm mugged while walking to my office building, I can give them a wallet with $20 in it and no ID's.
I keep my other wallet with all my credit cards, cash, etc in another pocket.

Why I just posted a delay in promotion (another thread) …
Low crime and honest (something I can’t post) …

I rarely fly any more now that I am retired. Last time i went to Europe, it was on a cruise ship. I returned from Paris to Newark NJ via Icelandic, at that time Boeing 757 aircraft, with a change of planes in Iceland.

There are a lot of old airplanes in commercial use. They are old based on age, and number of take off/landing cycles, which depressurizes and pressurizes the aircraft, and stress on control surfaces and landing gear.

I prefer trains. The high speed rail system in western Europe cruises along at 150 mph or more. Fast enough for me.

Worry about the crime more than flying Boeing in all seriousness.

Surely you’re aware that the 70s and 80s was an era during which airliner crashes were far more common than they are today.

A tremendous amount has been learned since then, with regard to aviation engineering, manufacturing, flight and crew operations, safety, the list goes on.

The 2020s is a much safer time to fly than any other time in history.

Yes, that was the tragic side. A lot of crashes - Easy to learn about by watching the documentary series: "Air crash investigations".

Regarding “ flight crew operation”.

It took the AA A300 crash for pilots to learn you cannot be aggressive with rudder movements, even if below maneuvering speed.

No aircraft is designed, or tested, to withstand full rudder reversals.
