Got 6 quotes from various contractors for new siding, fascia, Azek window trim and vinyl soffits for our beach house. 2 of the 6 were Angie's List or Angi... whatever that outfits calls itself. The other 4 were local, inland contractors 2 were referrals and 2 were Google search results. The Angi list quotes barely made our deadline for submission...one the night before and one the day of.
The other 4 within 72 hours of our request.
One Angie's List quote was $67,000 the other, $39,000.
The non Angie's List guys came in, $25K, $28K, $34K, $38K
The $25K quote has the best reviews, best references, zero BBB complaints and an A+ BBB rating. and can start the soonest and finish in 4-5 days.

I don't know who uses that Angi service but I know I never will.

I used Home Advisor’s a few times years ago and was satisfied, but I don’t even know if they are still running.

Edit: Just googled it and they appear to be in cahoots now. 😱

Ask your local contractors for their recommendations. Mine all have a list. These guys are protecting their reputations and know trades so can be a good bet.

Sometime your neighbors will have good recommendations too, but this one is not quite as reliable.

There are a lot of regional and national players dipping into home repair and renovation. That adds a lot of "profit" layers and reduces trustworthiness. I don't know if Angie's is helping to fuel this trend.

Just did our roof and 3/3 contractors I quoted were found from the GAF shingle mfg website. "GAF Elite certification" or something.

Does the siding product have any certified installers?

May not be worth anything but it made me feel better knowing they have some kind mfg. Certificates.

About ten years ago I worked for a guy part time, who had a duct cleaning business. It was a franchise deal, but he got almost all his work thru angie's list. He told me angie's list charged him 40% of the jobs cost. I'm not sure how you get work from them, must be some kind of contractual agreement that you pay a flat 40 %. Even tho he was a franchise owner from the duct cleaning company, they didn't actually help you find work. But had a list of rules you needed to follow or risk losing your deal. He had to buy a small box truck, and specialised tools to perform the work. Plus attend training seminars around the country. I was just a helper so I didn't have any skin in that game. But he finally wised up and stuck, I mean sold the business to some other guy after 8 years. Who I'm sure had to put more work into getting jobs, than doing them. And paying a 40% fee on every job he got thru Angie's list. The thing is, not everyone has a need for duct cleaning, and cleaning your dryer vent is something most people can and do do themselves. Like the old saying goes some fishing lures are designed to catch fish, and some are designed to catch fishermen.,,

Not sure. I know most the guys that quoted source their siding and roofing materials from ABC supply and they're huge....I know CertainTeed validates their warranty but you need to use all of their associated products....siding, wrap, flashing materials etc...

Before you pull the trigger have a look at the Everlast siding. I just had it installed in a saltwater environment because it attaches with stainless hardware and has a very high wind rating.

ABC supply is the distributor.

GAF was the same way, to get the warranty you have to use 3 of their products. It was spelled out on the quote what was used so there is record of it.

CertainTeed has a find a contractor tool on their website. I would try that if you like their siding.

I've got a solid contractor that's already quoted the siding. He's been around for quite awhile. He gave a very fair quote for the siding and just quoted a fair price for the roof...GAF 30 year 130mph rated shingles. Going to have him do both...start with the roof followed by the siding. ..$35K+- $1000.... don't know how many sheets of plywood need replacement yet @$95 each

I don't know why you bothered with them. Anybody can install shag carpet in a bathroom 🚻 🤔

Angi's List absolutely is a waste of time and money. We used it last year for our washing machine, that actually got replaced on Thursday. Guy shows up that only spoke Spanish, and couldn't even get our machine fixed anytime soon. Wife had to communicate with him through Google Translate. Ended up getting a refund from AL. Never using them again.

The outfit I went with uses GAF shingles and they exclusively use CertainTeed siding. They are CertainTeed certified.
