I am truly shocked to see just how well these group III synthetic oils did against Amsoil. It appears that the only exceptional offering Amsoil has against it's comparitors is TBN/Acid Formation Controls or Reserve Alkalinity.

As far as I know, it looks like Mobil 1 is the only other group V VI oil tested. Once again, I think the drain intervals are a little asssque? Amsoil 25K Mobil 1 15K and all the others 5K. As we all well know, oil life is dependent on many factors and PP and some of the others have gone 10K in some applications. I would like to see some real world numbers of the oils conditions in the same type engine until the oil is close to being rendered useless or time to change. Then and only then can the cost per mile be determined correctly.

On the Four Ball Wear Test....Amsoil, Valvoline SynPower, and Castrol GTX are dead even....Wow...I alway's thought that group V VI oils had more shear film strength...but this test has shown this thought process incorrect. Even Castrol GTX was right there!

It may be time for Amsoil to think about producing new oil formulations involving Group III oils!

Whaaa??

Amsoil does make Group III oils.

I know about the XL line. Great oils....I mean products that would compare to SynPower, PP, etc.

These group III oils would not need to carry the current additive packages to meet the Starburst and other certs.

I am talking about moving in a different direction with a group III oil that is priced in the 4 to 6 buck range and still produces results as good as the oils Amsoil currently makes.

Tri-Syn was PAO and a combination of two esters. Those would be Group V.

which testing are you talking about..the million years old comparative tests data on amsoil's main website?...till today I wonder why would they compare with dino and different grade of syn oils than their own grade?

Yes Amsoil's website. November 2008 test released this month. The last test was 2005. Not quite a million years.

M1 EP and the others are are API 10w30 API SM. Not sure what you mean by "different grade".

I think current M1 have some small amount of ester.

Amsoils formulated for long oil change intervals that is why the Tbn etc. That is why there is little advantage of using a long life oils for regular oil changes. Extended oil change intervals is Amsoils forte. GpII. GPII+ on up are really good oils though most passenger cars oils are not additized for long oil change intervals.

I think you're right. Either way, I salute your perceptiveness.

I mean ASSQUE! It's like the saying (I assume it was that way, however...if you take off the ume from assume...that's what I am!) or they are?

Mobil 1 contains Alkylated naphthalenes or AN's and are Group V.

Like Bruce said, was thinking M1 was still GrIV and V. Gr III too right?
