Amsoil z rod 10w-30 for Ford 7.3 Gas

Saw a voa for the 10w40 version
I'd personally run the 10w40 but the 5w30 is probably fine. Idk we had 3 of these go bad now on 5w30 but they are severe duty vehicles too. Just keep the oil fresh, pick a higher zinc, don't overthink it and just drive it.

Most 40 weights are like 33% than 30 weights at operating temperatures, would there be any benefit to running a 40 weight? I use my 7.3 to pull a 28’ travel trailer in the mountains, hauling up some steep inclines.

I ask these questions because I know all about the issues with the lifters and camshafts in these 7.3’s, and I’m not convinced the oil recommendation of 5w-30 for everything in the owners manual is the best for wear protection when most heavy equipment runs on 40 weight, and diesel engines run 40 weight.

Why not a Euro 5w30? They are typically more stout and are usually at the higher end of the scale within grade or M1 0w40 would also be a good choice.

Would the Amsoil Diesel DHD 5w30 possibly be a good oil for the 7.3 gas? I'm wondering about it for the 7.3 gasser in my 2023 Motorhome. I'm at 28500 lbs fully loaded pulling my Canyon, you can tell it's working hard on steep grades. I'm wondering if the engine might benefit from this heavier 12.0 Cst oil without having to go a 40 grade? The DHD 5w30 carries the SN+ rating.

It would work well if you don't want to go higher viscosity.

What would be your recommendation be for a higher viscosity oil in this application? while I'm not opposed, I don't know enough to make a decision as to how important staying with a SN+ or similar API rating. The manual only lists the WSS-M2C-961-A1 rating

Amsoil has several XW-40's. From 0W-40 to 15W-40

What is your climate/region?

How many miles on the big hauler per year?

I'm also a Washingtonian, so the mnt passes of I90 through Washington, Idaho and Montana as well as trips west over the Coastal mnts. Probably around 10k miles per yr.

What you chose w the zinc/phos is fine but you would not go wrong stepping up to a Xw40, I would

Just did an oil change with mobil1 FS 5w-30, prefilled the oil filter then dumped the 5 quarts in. Noticed some small amounts of stuff on the bottom of the jug, didn’t know if it was additive fallout. I previously shook both 5 quart jugs up though. I shook up the unopened jug again and poured 3 quarts into the empty jug so I could shake up the stuff on the bottom, then poured the additional 3 quarts in the truck. The additional shake up seemed to help but I still noticed fallout on the bottom of the jug..

Should I be concerned?

Nope. Your engine will be fine, smart to do the rinse maneuver.
