Amsoil XLF VS ASL

Whats the difference between Amsoil's XLF(7,50O) or the ASL. Is the XLF the Amsoil conventional or synthetic blend? Whats the pour points between the 2 in 5w30? Thanks. I will only be doing 6mos 5k OIC The temp does get a little crazy here in Anchorage. Is the extra money worth the ASL? Please tell the main differences . Thanks

I'm using the XLF Amsoil to "inse" out the left-overs from the Royal Purple I was running previously. It's pour rating is:
Pour Point °C (°F)
-43 (-45)

The Pour Point for the ASL is:
Pour Point °C (°F)
-50 (-58)

The ASL is 100% synthetic. Yhe XLF you'd have to ask someone like Pablo,but I'ma guessing it's a blend.

Myself I'll be switching over to the ASL after the rinse phase is done,as it gets ---- cold here during the winter months (-20 to -30 without factoring in wind-chills

)

AS noted ASL is a PAO (with some esters) and XLF is a highly refined Group III oil. In Alaska, go with ASL.

XLF has a lower TBN and is a GRPIII....I liken the XLF to a Mobil 1 or Pennzoil Platinum IMHO. ASL is PAO 100% with a higher TBN and stouter add pack.

About $1.40 a qt difference in cost. ASL has more than double the recommended drain interval, stronger additive package, and better base stocks.
Nothing wrong with the XL series--it was designed as a niche market oil, especially for quick lubes and shops that want the customers coming back more often.
Original price differential was about 50 cents a quart.
Ovet the past few years, this had widened.
Since the 0W-20 came available, I don't stock any of the XL oils, though I can certainly get them for customers.

SargeGTO : there is no such thing as a 100% PAO engine lubricant, PAO needs a carrier for the additives.

For what it's worth, here's my

. I tried the XLF out of curiosity last year and the car ran beautify. I think it's a great oil and with a listed TBN of 9, is probably better than the vast majority of the syns one commonly sees around. However, it's also a lot more expensive especially when one factors shipping of the Amsoil and the sales/rebates of more the common oils, like PP. So while the XLF is probably a great oil, if you're going to pay that much already, you might as well pony up the extra few bucks for the ASL or SSO.
