Amsoil TSO 0W30, 6733 mi, 2002 Nissan Maxima 3.5L

I've already come to the conclusion that Mobil1 does not match up well with my VQ35 in my G35... if after one more interval with the Amsoil, wear does not improve significantly, find another oil.... that lead wear is downright SCARY! Even the copper is pretty high. See my UOAs:

I noted you only went 6700 miles in a years time....Please describe the type of service (average trip length) this engines sees, as it may be contributing to this high bearing wear.

FWIW, the diesel formulated synthetics like the Series 3000, 5w-30 normal perform better under this type of service. They provide better protection against rust and corrosive wear caused by moisture, acids and fuel dilution....

chinee, it's not always the oil. Some oils work better in some engines then others. They all use different chemistry. Take a look at Redline in a nice German Engine, then throw it in a Honda. It's very hard to really conclude in some of these UOA's what is actual wear and what is chemical interaction IMO.

*I'd give Amsoil 5w-40 a shot in this engine.

FWIW, silicon stays about 8-20 and iron wear is about same as yours in my PathFinder VQ6, 3.5L with the same oil filter. Never have determined if its poor filtering, intake leaks, or if that's just the normal wear pattern.

Never have seen that much copper and lead, however.

This was when I was using Mobil 1 10W30 at average 3,700 to 4,200+ mile intervals.

I find the Nissan 3.5 L prefer at least a 10W30 weight oil.

Haven't tried GC as yet in the PathFinder.

This car sees qty 4 10 min trips a day 4 or 5 days per week. City traffic, no more than 45 mph. Sometimes on the weekends we will take it for a 45 minute drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Someone asked if I use premium gas and the answer is "consistently."
 
Your overreacting the the lead and silicon. Having owned two of the Maximas the level are comparable to what I saw at that mileage. One sampel does not a trend make. A few under your belt and see what the levels are, and 22 ppm of lead si is not high, well, it is to the people on this board but it really is not high. the lead is the engine still breaking in

Don't lose sleep ovet this sample.

I believe that Ted's idea of using the S3K is a great one. Since you are willing to pay the premium price for the S2K, the S3K will give you add performance for the same price. If price is an issue, I agree with railball that the ATM 10w-30 is a super oil for the $$$ with an 8-9 month OCI. I have found that after 9 months the wear #s and thickening of the S2K and ASL go up to to a 40 weight.

Could you post the ASL 5w-30 #s for comparison?

This was my first run of TSO. I was trying to see if I could run 2 years with just filter changes to justify the added cost but that is unlikely. Although all previous runs (except original factoy fill and the first change) were ASL I never tested because the engine was too new so I do not have ASL numbers to share.
 
Try running the Amsoil Series 3000, 5w-30 instead....I ran some for 21,000 miles and two full years in my 2.4L, tacoma under mostly highway driving conditions and it was still in good shape, with a TBN of 5.4 (ASTM D-2896) and a viscosity of 13.3 Cst - up from 11.7 Cst.

The S3000 IS the most robust formulation Amsoil makes - particularly in regards to the additive chemistry.

I am amazed that the lead was that high with the use of lube control. My run on ASL 5w-30/ two SDF 13 filters for one year/16,350 miles (over half hwy), yielded lead 20, iron 20, copper 11, silicon 29 (because of a K&N panel filter). I have since gone back to OEM air filters.

With all that torque/HP, it comes at a cost of abusing oil. The VQ35 V6 tends to like a thicker 30 weight oil. The S3K oil that Ted is recommending fits that bill based on your desire for 1+ year intervals plus being a robust 30 weight oil. The stuff has to be good; Big Al uses it in his personal vehicles.
 
caremd99, Please get a professional interpretation of the engine. You are getting what you pay for here in "guesses" on what is happening to cause the results.

This oil requires LC and FP to operate properly !

Use more LC with this oil and stick with the Stock air filter. The Oiled foam air filter was one of the causals.

2 ounces LC with the TSO is perfect then add 3 ounces LC every 1000 miles. FP at the current rate with premium is optimum.

LC and FP will not strip or increase elemental wear values as it is not reactive even in abraded bearing materials like some constituents.
