Hmm, a starting TBN close to 9 compared to the 12.5 listed on their website. A formulation change?

EDIT: Didn’t notice the test method in this VOA. Thanks @Pablo

Thanks, I completely missed the method. Carry on! I was actually thinking of going back to Amsoil’s SS line, but the membership Pablo!

Just kidding, the price adding the $10 6-month isn’t terrible when it pays for itself right away if going for free shipping; which I wish were offered at a lower price point but I get shipping is crazy these days.

This VOA additives list is really good. Plus, only inches short of a 5w30 @100cst.
Who did this Analysis? Sure easy to read.
One of the thicker 20 grade oils. I almost went for this oil in my 07 Fit, but I’m going straight to their AZO 0w30 to curb consumption a little and hopefully slow a rear main seal leak. I’m sure the ester content will help there, but I’m not sure how much my fuel economy will suffer. If the rest gets better, I’ll live with it.

How much of the very large amount of boron in this line of oil is likely borate esters? What proportion of the virgin oxidation number can reasonably be attributed to those borate esters?

I don't know but my guess is a small amount. I say that based on other oils that used a good amount of boron that showed oxidation values well under 20. PUP was one.

Hmm... Perhaps not.

Sure are some interesting correlations and ratios when one looks around. Gotta find VOAs from labs who run oxidation, though.

If I could find one with PUP that would possibly help. I believe they use about 250ppm of boron.

Here is one but it's a UOA. Boron starts at 250ppm and dropped to 101 ppm after 4k miles and oxidation was only 14. So I would say it does not contribute much to the oxidation value. The oxidation value for PUP is likely around 10.

My guess is only ester base oils will drive that number up. Esterized additives most likely just a little.
