We've set a new track record! 42 deleted posts in one page!!!
The OP is gone; I can attest to that.

The VOA is left here for the purpose of data for others to glean.

There is nothing wrong with having a discussion about this product, and disagreement is allowed when it's civil. But we will not tolerate malicious, uninformed ramblings which attempt to degrade a well-respected sponsor who has worked hard to earn the trust of many here, or the quality products he faithfully represents.

This is the oil I will be running in my new Honda Pilot, or at least the first few OCIs, when I may switch to 5W-30 SS. I'm at 293 miles and already stocked for changing to Amsoil SS 0W-20 at 500 miles.

I've also ordered two sample bottles from Speediagnostix. One for VOA from their lab, and another including particle count for the first oil change. I'll change it again around 3k miles and submit another sample. If all is good, will go 5k - 7.5k OCIs from that point.

LSJr told me in an email to run a minimum of three full OCIs before switching to any other oil. Obviously this doesn't apply if the engine really doesn't like a particular oil. Trend analysis is the only meaningful data. So even if I do decide to switch to 5W-30, it would be a couple of years from now.

I'll post the VOA when received from Speediagnostix.

Well I do hope your UOA results indicate that the engine likes the oil. Is that the term LSJr used?

This was his quote from the email in reference to increasing the viscosity. I used the Reader's Digest version.

"If the used oil analysis data is better with the 0W30 than the 0W-20, go with the 0W-40. Just let the data and not your heart guide you."

Another reason to disregard this YouTube personality.

It is a complete joke and misrepresentation that one can determine relative oil quality between three oils using a $30 spectrographic analysis. Wear analysis between motor oils is far more complex and expensive, and for good reasons.

So for these trends you will be obtaining, how are you eliminating every other variable from everyday driving besides the oil, many of which are more significant than the grade change?

I understand your position. I'm not looking for "the" magic set of data. I'll be using Amsoil SS regardless. It has served me well for many years. Just wish they had a SS version when I had the Audi.

Curious how popular are the virgin and used oil analysis threads on this forum? I suspect quite high. They're fun to look at, great conversation starters, and sometimes devolve into chaos. If it wasn't for people willing to throw a little cash at a cheap oil analysis, things might not be as "exciting" around here. Personally, the oil analysis threads are much better than forums with threads like "What did you have for breakfast today?" Besides, the poor soul keeping up with the VOA database would have several more hours which could be redirected by their SO to honey-do lists.

You need to update your quote to account for inflation. ;) Speed is $60, BS is $40-$50, and OAI is $40ish. We can now talk about how "back in the day" you could get an oil analysis for $30. I guess there are still some kits you could get for that little, but they tend to sacrifice something to get there.
