I thought the XL line was syn-blend. When I go to the Amsoil homepage (http://www.amsoil.com/) I see four products in a "featured" section and one of them is XL 5w30 listed as 100% synthetic. Is this a typo or is the XL line 100% synthetic?

If I am wrong/misinformed, please forgive me.

I believe it is one of those mostly class III synthetics like many mobil 1, pennzoil platinum, rotella synthetic etc. So no it is not a blend but it could also be considered a super refined conventional oil depending who you ask. It is truly a synthetic though like the other class III oils.

All Mobil 1 oils are Grp 4.

However, why do they not list it as 100% synthetic on the main motor oil page: http://www.amsoil.com/a/synthetic-motor-oil-engine-oil

They list their first oils as 100% synthetic and have it on the bottles but not on the XL line.

Are they walking a fine line?
No because they are catering to a market that wants what a true synthetic should be and that is a PAO or POE based oil. So they market their oils which contain mostly PAO as 100% synthetics and their Grp-III as just synthetic.

I'm pretty sure that is not true (all of their oils being group IV), though we may never know for sure. Mind you I am a mobil 1 user.

Ahhh, ok. I guess I am going to get some XL 5w20 tomorrow!

Aren`t the 0W Mobil 1`s and the 15W50 a group IV/V (PAO/ester) mix?

They are. I checked with Mobil tech last Dec. and he said all oils with the Mobil 1 lable are grp 4. They are a multi blend oil with perhaps some 3 4and 5 who knows what else for base stock.

Those as well as the all the "European Formula" ones should be ok. It's the common ones like 5w30, 10w30, 5w-20 that are suspect

Ok, no M1 bashing is needed. My question was answered. Move on!

Here goes another thread to the M1 BaseStock debate...

Who cares... M1 is a darn good oil and has shown great results in real world applications like the Million mile Saab which sits in the Detroit Auto Museum and all the board members here who have used it and have pictures of spotless engine internals with tons of miles on it.

Really this needs to be put to rest.

Amsoil XL is one of those sleeper oils, it just sits back quietly doing it's job, while the other Amsoil products take the spotlight. Very good oil, never seen a bad UOA with it.

Wow you can tell the old man that started Amsoil is dead and now the MBA's and the Marketing department are running the show! That is absolutely disgusting that Amsoil of all companies would decide to take the moral low ground like most other oils sold in the USA and call their G-III synthetic. I know why too! They get their teeth kicked in because of the high prices for their products before you even factor in the $20 a year preferred price so now they want to play the price point game with the big dogs by labeling their G-III a full synthetic. It is time likes these I wish I lived in Europe mostly Germany where lie's and marketing mumbo jumbo do not count when it comes to the label "synthetic"!

I have been thinking about using Amsoil S3K HD 5W30 but if Amsoil get's much worse I will black list them from my list of products I recommend and use!!!In my book their integrity was all they had that no one else had in the market and if they are going trade that in for an extra fistful of dollars I will make sure everyone I know does not use their products!!!!!!I almost hope they ship some stuff labeled that way to Europe and get their pants sued off them but I am sure they will not let that happen! It is one thing for big business to lie and misstate the truth when they know it wrong no matter how accepted it is in this country but when a small company does it well that is even worse!Amsoils knows that G-III's are not true synthetics they have said so before on record it is just as bad as how Harely Davidson bad mouthed synthetics for so long blaming them for everything that failed ont heir engines especially flat spots.....Then after 20+ years of bad mouthing Synthetic they come out with their own that is not even as good as the Mobil 1 15W50 Red Cap that so many Harelys have been run on!It called being a Hypocrit!!!When money is involved you can also call them sell outs!

JB - cut back on the caffeine.

AJ Amatuzio is still alive. You are just not good with facts, are you?

Amsoil continues with excellent sales, and the general public just wants a good oil. Group III doesn't mean squat beyond 0.01% of the oilheads. So you want to tell us all the tests and runs you done to know M1 "red cap" is better than Amsoil MC oils? Plus, despite what you write you have never actually used Amsoil products.

Not sure why you choose this thread to take another one of your dumps in.
