So, some of you may know my Saturn SL-1 engine has been REAL dirty and I have been trying to clean it up since I bought it with 109,000 miles and it now has 142,667 miles.

Ran many (essentially all) 3k OCI's with MMO added to engine cleaning oils & PureOne extended length oil filters.

Today, I added a bottle, the "Older" bottle of "Amsoil Engine Flush" to a hot engine & ran it at a fast idle of 1500 RPM's for 20 minutes.

This will be an ongoing thread to log what differences I'm experiencing.

Immediate difference: Before the idle used to consistently bounce around between 700-800 RPM's. Right after the flush, the idle is noticeable smoother, now the needle is stable at 750 RPM's with maybe just +/- 10 RPM's.

I'll pay close attention to smoothness, MPG's, power, oil darkness & oil burning rates.

Have you guys noticed differences with Amsoil Engine Flush?

i'd say ,and this is not dispariging your test, but rather enfluencing the decision to use kerosine, just as similar.sorry for my grammer.

you say you've been adding MMO to the oil, but have you done an MMO soak?
I've done a few of them on S series saturns w/ seemingly good results.

Not yet, I burn a quart in 1,500 miles (before the flush...)

Good choice with the Amsoil Engine/Transmission Flush product. I use it in dirty engines and in converting a car over to full synthetic oil. I also like their Power Foam for top end cleaning, that in connection with MMO for the last 500 miles, is all I ever need for basic(non-sludge) cleaning.

A HM oil may be a good choice for a while, or something like PYB. Using MMO and/or Amsoil's products every so often to maintain the cleaning you got done recently. Seriously, though, check out Power Foam prior to changing your oil again(must change oil afterward).

I used the "Old" Amsoil Engine Flush, not the new Engine/Transmission stuff. The 35 years of selling Amsoil guy said this is the stronger formula. They had to change the formula to run it in Transmissions.

Well, how do you get a hold of the older one's? Do any dealers have some in stock at their location??

Just get your phone book out and make some calls. I think it's been about a year since they came out with the newer formula, but you might find some old stuff still out there.

Yea, some may or may not. My guy, Bud, had some left...

Here it is:

I ran ran the "old" one this weekend in the g/f RAV even though it been on an Amsoil diet for last 5 yrs or so. I ran some PYB w/hard dose LC20(2oz/qt)and Puro 30001 filter for 4k. did the flush yesterday and filled w/super tech and P1 30001 w/5oz lc20. going back to ACD and P1 20195 as the 30001 is a bit big for the room in there.
no oil puff when I stared it this morning, will see how it goes for the next month or so.

Less solvents, more cleaners. The old Flush did a good job at helping drain the old oil out and certainly helped drain out sludged engines in a nothing less than projectile diarrhea form. But it never really cleaned the rings much. The new Flush, I think, really begins the cleaning process and certainly doesn't contain anything that will harm seals.

also forgot to mention going to power foam the top end of the 00 RAV just before the next change. should be pretty clean though.

Make a vid if you can!

Yes. It's best to use it while the engine is running, and if you have to remove the intake I'm not sure you can keep the MAF sensor plugged in and have the throttle work correctly without air passing by the sensor.

Could one of the Amoil guys on here specify if it's safe to add while the engine is off and then re-start the car?

If it were me, I'd try to use it by getting the engine up to temp and shutting it off(mid day in sunlight if possible), remove the intake and spray inside the throttle body inlet. When I used the Power Foam compared to Mopar CCC, it was foaming immediately as I sprayed it in I could see it expanding as it touched the hot engine, but this was while it was running.

The only way to get it in for top end cleaning, then would be to remove the spark plugs also and spray into each cylinder, re-install the plugs and then shut the hood of your car. You want it to soak a good hour, IMO.

Then, restart and get it to idle for a minute, followed by short length revs to 2k RPM or so, and then cautiously drive it to the nearest street that you can execute a WOT run safely.

...but I'd be curious to see what anyone says in regards to how otherwise to use OR not use it with a vehicle that utilizes a MAF sensor.

I still have a few bottles of the older FORMULA, and I thought I wasted my money. LOL
