Amsoil Engine Flush Results

Earlier today, I noticed that my car was low on oil so I decided to do an engine flush prior to getting the oil changed at the local Sears. Other motives for using the engine flush includes super long intervals on conventional oil and some chronic oil consumption problems.

Upon arriving at the Sears parking lot, I dumped the entire bottle of Amsoil Engine Flush into the crankcase. Normally Amsoil recommends using about 10% of the crankcase capacity, but in this case I added far more than that as I only had 3 quarts of oil left in the crankcase.

I ran the car at about 2200 rpm for 20 minutes. I was hoping that the shop would take my car in right away, but they were short staffed so the car ultimately sat for an hour before the oil got drained-- hopefully this did not cause any issues.

One thing I did notice though, is that the engine did sound noticeably louder and with more NVH towards the end of the 20 min flush cycle. The Amsoil flush may have thinned out the oil considerably.

As far as post-flush results, I will continue to keep this thread updated. But so far, the oil has stayed clean after a 10 mile drive home which is a good sign, as normally any new oil starts turning dark rather quickly on this engine.

Has anyone had good results from Amsoil Engine Flush?

I never used a flush. What does Amsoil say about residual flush remaining after draining it? Do they recommend a short OCI following the flush, or not comment about it?

I'm not a fan of too many flushes, just don't like the thought of the residue in my oil.

From what I understand, MMO is mostly solvent. How does that differ from a flush product like Amsoil? I would think MMO would leave a residue as well, although I see a lot of people using it without any negative effects.

A light oil can also be a solvent.

MMO.

Old time proven remedy.

Amsoil flush instructions say to make a 7500 mile oc using their 5w-20, after an engine flush.

Directions for Use
Though it works in one treatment, AMSOIL Engine and Transmission Flush is safe enough to be used at every oil change. If using a flushing machine, follow the manufacturer’s recommendation. Otherwise, use the following guidelines:

Engine: Add 16 oz. bottle of AMSOIL Engine and Transmission Flush to engine oil fill port. Idle the engine for 10-15 minutes, then immediately drain the oil. Ensure enough time for the system to completely
drain. Remove and replace the engine oil filter. Refill engine with new engine oil in the viscosity grade recommended by the manufacturer.

What is the difference between high idle at 2200 rpm for 20 minutes and easy/slow driving for 15-25 minutes with RPM at around 2000-2300 RPM ?

Most engine flush directions are idle at xxx-RPM for yyy-minutes, isn't driving at similar RPM for the same minutes will get the same result ?

Good question, my guess is they don't want the engine under any load. If that isn't the case then I would think a nice slow/easy 20 minute drive would produce better results.

After 200+ miles, the engine oil still looks like new, which is quite uncommon for this car.

The flush must have cleaned SOMETHING up.

I used it on a 95ish saturn 8 valve that developed a loud clatter. I assumed it was a stuck valve but a goofball mechanic I had listen to it said it was deep and engine needed to be rebuilt (roll eyes).

I ran it for twice the recommended time and varied rpm 1-3k. It made the noise go away and itnever came back. So it worked in that application for sure.

Was the the NEW Amsoil Flush (compatible with engine oil OR ATF?)??

Probably had a gummed up timing chain tensioner, I've seen a few, usually in poorly maintained engines. The tensioners are hydraulic and the engine oil pressure applies tension to the chain. Once an engine gets sludged up, the tiny passages get plugged and the tensioner gets full of crud and the chain will get loose and make all kinds of racket.
Sounds like it worked well at cleaning your engine.
