Amsoil ea15k04 close inspection question

You'd think if Amsoil got enough complaints on the level of quality that they would hammer down on whoever is making those filters for them. That's how it should work. No company should let their supplier drag them down. Put the hammer down or fire them and find a new supplier that can do the job right.
Yeah well, not sure who they would switch to.

Shouldn’t be that hard or expensive to mass-produce the handful of really-popular spin-on filters left with good quality for about $15, especially when they’re almost all manufactured overseas now.

My machine shop guy has a sign in his shop that says “The reality of manufacturing: Quality, Price, Delivery. Pick two.”

It seems most people here would be willing to take quality & delivery (availability) as primaries for a slight price premium.

But what do I know? I’m just the dumb quality guy at work that maintenance calls at the last minute to bail them out from their poor planning… 🤬

Exactly @SubieRubyRoo !

That’s why I asked about the best choice for filter now. The other threads seem to wander with respect to when the filter was purchased, who actually manufactures it now, etc. I’ve never had an issue with amsoil filters until that pic. That is why I (thought) was paying a slight premium for.

Yeah, seems it could be setup with Donaldson or Fleetguard to get some quality cans out there in popular part #'s. Sure, it wouldn't be practical to try and cover all applications, but many of the part #'s already have crosses in the system, even if they aren't the synthetic media versions.

Oil filters are constantly changing, so it's a constant chase to find the ones that aren't going downhill in performance and quality.

Psst… Donaldson if you’re listening… I’d pay $18-20 for Synteq 99%@15u media, punched flow holes & silicone BPV in the FE10575 and FE7317-sized filters with coil spring BPVs at factory-rated pressures… $25 if external surfaces (including block thread area) are formed in 300-series stainless sheet with no paint 🥹

You’ve got my number- 1-844-HPL-FILT 🤣

Just now caught my mistake… meant silicone ADBV…. Doh!

The following is amsoil reply from my sending them both filter pictures. I don’t know that I agree. But full transparency and closing the loop means I follow up.

Amsoil doesn’t make filters

Just for the record, Amsoil doesn't make filters. They really don't even control the contract manufacturer.

I'm not surprised and it's not ridiculous when you look at the junk being made by many or really almost all filter manufacturers. I have expressed my discontent in several ways, through direct complaints, by requesting Amsoil get out of the PCMO full flow filter business and certainly by not pushing or even recommending Amsoil branded full flow filters. This does not mean or imply that Amsoil filters are worse than other filters, just the bar has been lowered so much, why drag the name down.

I would also recommend you not go with a Donaldson media filter in any application where/when Amsoil calls out a "15K series" filter. These become restrictive in use in some engines.
The above must be taken as truth

I gave it a few more hours thought and wrote them a formal complaint. I don’t know that it will do anything, but companies need to be put on notice when and why customers leave.

I don’t know how many thousands I’ve spent with amsoil over the past 10 years (and don’t want to figure that out), but I am left thinking they no longer are the company of old that built the reputation current sales are based on. Every company makes mistakes, but what matters is what the company does when those mistakes are discovered.

Why should I continue to patron a company who charges a premium for a product that is at home on any second tier auto store bottom shelf?

End rant.

To everyone here - again, thank you for the replies.

I feel your frustration. My guess is Amsoil is repeating what the filter manufacturer is telling them. Amsoil is a great independent US company with some of the best oils. They do need to pressure these filter manufacturers to do better with the Amsoil name.

Thing is, these filter assemblers don't give a rat for Amsoil's business.

@Pablo @thescreensavers @OVERKILL

Looks like I should just smile and nod and go with the regular OEM filter? With the cellulose media.

The TRD (yes, turd) filter media looked great, but they don’t sell them anymore.
I have seen several TRD filters just like your Amsoil branded filter with the messy glue job. I wouldn't worry about it.

The Carquest Blue and current Mobil 1 cartridge filters like shown are sourced from Korea and look pretty good. May not be quite as efficient as the TRD and Amsoil filter, but they seem to be constructed well.
