Hi there, Is Amsoil 5w30 and 10w30 ACEA A3/B3 rated. It says at the back of the container it is. but, if you go to there website it doesn't say it is. it just state's there it is A4/B4.

I know there 5w40 is ACEA A3/B3 and BMW LL98,01 approved. Im just curious w/ there 5w30. Im planning to use it during the winter as substiture from my dealer BMW HP 5w30.

I'd go with what the bottle says over the website since these things can change over time. Other than that, all you can do is find the date of production and call up Amsoil and ask them which ACEA specs this batch was intended for.

Neither the Amsoil ASL 5W-30 or the ATM 10W-30 is A3-rated according to their web site. Personally, I'd think the web site might be more up-to-date versus the label on the bottle.

If you're looking for an A3-rated 30-weight oil in the Amsoil line, check out the Series 3000 Synthetic 5W-30 Heavy-Duty Diesel Oil.

Maxlife synthetic 5/10w30 is

API SL/SJ, ACEA A3/B3/B4, BMW LL01/98, VW502.00/505.00, MB229.3/229.1

and can be had cheaply or free if you haven't used the rebate yet.

Orics,

The Amsoil 0w-30/5w-30/10w-30, 100% synthetics are all being formulated a bit thinner than before - specifically to meet the Energy Conserving requirements of API/SM and GF-4. They are now ACEA A5/B5 rated oils and also meet the even more stringent VW 503.00 "Longlife" specification, which allows 30,000km/2 yr OCI's in specific VW/Audi engines. VW 503.00 requires HT/HS viscosities > 2.9 Cp and < 3.5 Cp @ 150C. The 5w-30/10w-30 come in @ 3.2 Cp @ 150C.

I see no issues running the slightly thinner Amsoil 5w-30 in this application, especially in the winter when oil sump temps will be quite low.

As an aside, Amsoil has a habit of using up all their old product labels before printing new ones. The latest specs for their 5w-30 and 10w-30 are posted on their website. The spec sheet for the Series 2000 has yet to be updated, but it's now 10.5 Cst @ 100C, with a HT/HS viscosity of 3.3 Cp and a VI of 187.

Hope this helps!

AMSOIL HDD 5W-30 has HTHS up to 3.5 so it is rated as A3/B3.
There is no ACEA A4 specification. Only A1,A2,A3,A5.

TooSlick, thanks for the info!

yup, your right (Miltellas) there's no such thing is A4/B4, im so sorry. Thanks for all the good information. Now, im narrowing my choice between the two Amosil series(3000) 5w30 (w/ is a diesel oil w/c can be also use for gasoline engines) and their Amsoil(2000) 0w30, which do you think the best suited for my application (BMW x3 3.0) which is my weekend family car w/c see's 100 miles during the weekend 80% express way and 20% city driving.

Thanks in advance...

When I asked AMSOIL (for a capable replacement for AMO 10W40, with a lower viscosity lube) what is the best 30 weight for extremely hard driving conditions (my drive style at Greece -Southern Europe- climate with a European small and running high rpm engine), they propose HDD 5W-30 and nothing else. Also HDD (Pour Point -58F) even as 5W is almost (and practically) as good as TSO (PP -65F) for very cold climates.

Obviously, the TSO 0W-30 is best for overall use, while it is specialized for gasoline engines and not so much for highly stressed diesels.

Orics,

Either of those two choices would be fine, but the 0w-30 is a tad better for cold weather use. It also is more specifically formulated for high performance, gas engine use in terms of the additive chemistry.
