I have a 2004 Honda CRV that calls for a 5W-20 motor oil. I currently run Mobil 1 5w30 in it. I'm looking at the Amsoil European Car Formula Synthetic 5W-40 Motor Oil. Would this be OK in this engine? The vehicle is driven as a commuter car running 50 miles each way at highway speeds. My interest in this oil is that I could buy 1 type of oil and use it in all of my vehicles (2002 VW Golf TDI and 2005 Jeep Unlimited with the 4.0). I currently use the Mobil 1 10w30 in the Jeep (I know it gives poor wear numbers in the UOA) and either Mobil 1 0W-40, Delvac 1 5W-40, or Castrol TXT 5W-40 formulated for the TDI in the Golf. The VW oil varies depending upon what I can find to purchase locally. The Amsoil I can purchase on-line. The Amsoil should be a good choice for all vehicles correct? I'm of the opinion that a 40 weight oil (10W-40 or 5W-40) would be better for the Jeep too. FYI, Mobil 1 Truck and SUV 5W-40 is hard to find in my area otherwise I'd use it.

5W-40 oil will work wonderfully in a highway driven Honda. I've posted a used oil analysis on my father's '04 Accord V-6, driven 80%+ highway miles with Mobil 1 5W-40. Based on that used oil analysis, I'd wouldn't worry at all about running a 5W-40 in a car specced for 5W-20, I'd even feel better with the 5W-40.

Maybe AMSOIL will come out with a 5W-40 AJCF (AMSOIL Japanese Car Formula)!

It'll work, especially NM summer cruising. Will it be better for your engine than 5W-20? That is the $64,000 question.

Try it, remember I'll rebate 100% your shipping cost......
