Maybe stupid question but why does a jug of AMSOIL come with 4 quarts instead of 5 quarts? I have to buy an extra bottle to make it 5 quarts . Why are they this way? It's not obvious to me. Thank you,

I have always suspected that it is an attempt to somewhat disguise the high price the premium motor oil. AMSOIL is the only one. HPL does it too. A lot of diesel 15W-40 is sold in 1 gal. jugs.

It really isn't inconvenient for all engines. My cars both take almost 7 quarts, so for me, it really wouldn't that inconvenient to buy 2 of the gallon containers.

When I first started driving in 1986 most motor oil in Canada was sold either in 1L bottles or 4L jugs. Then for a while it was 4.4L jugs. It was only maybe 15 years ago when they started being sold here in 5 quart jugs. A few are currently sold in 5L jugs but 5 quart is more common. So we always just made do with whatever we could get. There’s never going to be a universal size that’s perfect for everyone. Some will still need to buy a second jug.

Must be Amsoil marketing madness. I am far too cheap to use premium oils like Amsoil or Royal purple but I do like RP is sold in 5 Qt jugs and even 6 gal pit crew boxes.

Thank you all.
I will pick up two more quarts. Live and learn.
I hope to perform a lab analysis on the current Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5w30 I am running and compare numbers with the AMSOIL Signature Series 5w30. I plan on running the intervals up to 10k miles.

I have a long commute and rack up the miles. Mostly all highway miles. Should be a good candidate for long extended intervals.
We shall see
Thanks again everyone.

I know the answer to your question, and I would like to post what I know, but I need Pablo to be ok with letting me answer your question. I get a really good discount on the Amsoil that I purchase, and I really need to keep that discount. The discount is more important than what I know.

No need to jeprodize that discount.
I have a great salesman here on the forum myself and I will get what I need. I look forward to using the AMSOIL and calculating which oil is best economically & performance wise.
We will use AMSOIL lab testing and compare Mobil 1 Extended Performance with AMSOIL Signature Series.

No. It’s been considered but I guess they still stick with the old gallon containers for sku and gallon multi pack reasons. Just rooted in the old. Not some silly trick thing
AMSOIL has over a thousand unique SKUs/products. They could easily make the switch if they wanted to. I'm not saying the decision was fully nefarious. I know it would be a big capital expenditure, so they probably just decided it wasn't worth it for whatever gain there may be for them, but it probably does help with sticker shock since a lot of people compare prices using 5 qt jugs, and they probably didn't mind that it was a nice side effect of using

Probably filling and selling gallon singles is not a huge deal. They have been asked in the Dealer magazine, and they don't rule it out. But then they may just stop there - what I mean by this is they sell 4 gallon cases, now would they sell 4 - 5 qt cases too? Maybe, because that is perhaps how they would ship to all the warehouses. So the SKU # really goes up.

It's not nefarious at all, IMHO.

No worries here. Ha!

What are you hoping a $30 used oil analysis will show you that would convince you either one is the superior oil?

You've been here 13 years. I think you know that by now.
I have an idea , more than faith, that I can pull off 10k miles with better numbers with AMSOIL. We shall see. I have 2 basic engines naturally aspirated that should provide evidence one way or another, so I am now able to get access to AMSOIL and their lab testing provisions. Let's find out.
That's it.
