I was at O'Reilleys today and the are now selling several Amsoil oils, I am most intrigued by the 100% synthetic 0w20 for my 2010 Mazda CX7, the oil claims a 25,000 mile OCI. At $10/quart its quite pricey. I am running M1 0w20 now, would there be an advantage to switching to amsoil? It sounds like great stuff. I wouldnt even think of going 25,000 miles on it but for a 10,000 mile interval paired with a K&N filter, would there be a benefit to the amsoil or should I stick with the good old M1?

It's only like a $12 difference between the mobil 1 and the Amsoil. ON the flip side, I'm sure theres a mobil 1 out there that could easily do the 10k (I'm sure someone will correct me there).

I think the 25k thing means that if your manufacturer specs a 25k OCI, their oil can handle it. It does NOT mean 'every car running this oil can use it for 25,000 miles'.

Here's what Amsoil says, I don't know of many mfgs that actually recommend 25,000 mile OCI's. Amsoil SSO states you can run it even longer.

I wonder how they are selling it at Orielly's? Aren't all those stores corporate owned? The manager there must be a dealer, or that store is franchised, not a corporate store.
Amsoil's formulation will have higher ZDDP than the Mobil 1 counterpart, but many debate the requirement for higher amounts of ZDDP in newer cars. Amsoil also has a group IV base stock, and even though Mobil 1 is secretive about their choice of base stock, it's popular opinion that most of them are group III due to Exxon Mobil press releases.
How many miles do you drive in a year? If it's 15,000 miles or less....I would say give Amsoil a try. You would only have to change your oil once a year. I wouldn't recommend an OCI longer than that without a UOA to verify your engine is acceptable with it. Many people run Amsoil for 20,000 miles or more, and the lab results return great with TBN readings of almost 4. They could have ran it even longer.
Also, considering dealer cost for Amsoil 0W-20 is 7.05 and website retail price is 9.45 per quart, the price you found is within reason for the product you are receiving. You also have to consider this, if you buy it online, you are still required to pay shipping and tax. Looks like you will get it about the same, or less price buying it at Orielly's. Although, this does not apply to Amsoil preferred customer who can buy everything online at dealer cost.

Amsoil ASM 0W-20 with a TBN of 12 and HTHS of 2.8 for a 10K interval is an excellent fit for the 2.5L 4 in the CX-7.

I put about 13,000 miles a year on the car. It has just over 16,000 on it now. I6 have been using O'reilly store brand syn and occasionally dino in it depending on whats on sale. I have been using M1 0w20 in my 2006 Mazda 6 with no issues. I was surprised to see amsoil on the shelf when getting wiper blades. I would ideally like to have a once a year oil change on the CX-7 if possible. If the amsoil is a good oil and could last for 10-13K, ill give it a try. The O'Reilly's here does not have the Amsoil filters, would a K&N be sufficient or should I try something different/better? Would a WIX work?
I think either filter would be best changed mid interval if you go a full 13K. Just swap a new filter in and top the oil up.
