they saved more people before they were introduced than after.

Not ever saying that they weren't part.

But nutrition and hygiene were kicking goals that have been credited to vaccines.

How so? I'll take my chances by letting my immune system fight it off. Our flu shots are free thanks to our health care plan.

Quote:
Had a good friend die from the flue, early 50's, picture of health, was dead in less than 12 hours, spent the last 6 in the hospital.

When your number is up it's up. Be it the flu, a bacterial infection, a car crash or just a plain old heart attack.

I'd rather let my body's natural defenses do their job and fight disease off. Makes me more resistant and less likely to continue to get sick.

Like I said, I'm not in a high risk group so I'm not worried about the flu. Survival of the fittest....

They will tell you that children need to be protected and isolated from harm and always supervised especially when it comes to taking their medications.

Besides being exposed to every bug in the neighborhood we also played outside and ran around playing games that required physical activity, rain or shine. Everyone played, no one sat on the sidelines. I don't think I ever knew a fat kid in elementary school but that was a long time ago.

So your solution is to make your kids sick, sorry, but that's just sick.

How so? Somehow I escaped childhood Chickenpox (yes I played with friends with it to try to get it). Get it when you are a kid and it's relatively minor. I ended up with it as an adult in college. Got a nice pamphlet from the Dr. on all the risks and how I could have died from it as an adult, ended up sterile, or a myriad of other problems.

Would have been much better for me to have had it as a kid even though the "pain" would have been "inflicted" on me.

Exposing your kids to things like dirt, other people, and not sanitizing everything is being a good parent! I grew up as a normal boy - played in the dirt, with worms, ingested God knows what, drank from hoses, etc. Broke a few bones, chipped a tooth, and had many cuts, scrapes, and bruises.

The best thing you can do for kids growing up to help boost their immune system and prevent allergies is to get them a puppy when they are about 3 or 4 years old. The dog will introduce them to bacteria and germs they would normally not come into contact with and they will develop natural anti-bodies.

Where's the citation for the data? The website it came from is a bunch of clickbait nonsense. The first article is about curing cancer with Vitamin C. You should really verify this stuff before sharing. Without being able to look at the actual data, I can't tell if this is accurate, or anti-vax nonsense. It doesn't even show what the Y-axis is. Deaths from polio? Diagnoses? The lack of both citations and proper labels sets off my [censored] detector.

In any case, it shouldn't surprise anyone that the polio death rates have been decreasing. Medicine has been improving the entire time, including supportive care, which is the treatment for polio. Specifically, the iron lung came into regular use in the 1920s. This allowed patients who would have previously died from paralysis to continue living.

I have no idea if this is true, but kids should have a dog anyway.

My last flu shot nearly killed me. It hit me harder than ANY flu I ever had..I wound up in the hospital with a 104 degree fever.

My grandmother had to stay away from children for many years...she had never had chicken pox as a child. As an adult, her doctor warned her that it could be fatal! (I recall I had it when I was six.) Many things are minor for a child, but can be life-threatening if you get them as an adult!

Jarlaxle,

Many people get sick after getting the flu shot. My boss got the flu shot and was sick for weeks.

Big Pharm says everyone in the USA needs the flu shot

+1000. I had a German Shepherd when I was a kid and I still have one today.

If you truly believe that go out in the middle of the expressway and play volley ball. Lets see how your number holds up.

Reactions do happen, but they are few and far between.
