I've only seen the movie once, but I did pick up on it at the showing; some folks noticed while others did not.

This is the controversy; that Eastwood chose to use a doll rather than a real child.

If that is the only critique one can come up with (pro or con) of the movie, that's pretty lame if you ask me.

OK! I was afraid that "the baby" was a middle eastern one and given the subject I thought the worst case scenario :-(

Ugh - this is bad; sadly this is exactly the kind of mentality I imagined MOST (NOT ALL) of the cheering fans in movie theaters would have. (NOT ALL of them, but the majority - idk how large of a majority).
Not the movie's fault, really -i highly doubt they wanted this kind of thing tweeted about it; but not a shock that the American audience (not the brightest in the world) would take the movie in such a wrong way.

Mostly young guys...speaking with bravado....after seeing a war movie with lots of killing....and you really think this is what the majority of people get from the film?

Pretty much an expected reaction (and proportionally minimal, I'm sure) from the "tweet" crowd where getting attention is the name of the game.

No, we Americans aren't the brightest in the world....but we aren't as blood-thirsty and ignorantly backward as the enemy we've been fighting since 9/11.

This link had a lot of points and yet the Tweets were noticed more. Try reading if you have not the other points. Like what was not mentioned in any way. WMD, Bush, etc.

There are plenty other valid and serious criticisms, but they are taboo and mustn't be mentioned here. Easy for anyone who knows how to use Google to find reviews, ranging from adoring to critical, all by himself.

My wife and I went to see this movie this week.

Wow.

I almost cried at the ending.

As the credits rolled, it was totally silent in the theater, then someone started clapping, then everyone started clapping.

It was impressive.

I have not seen the film yet; but just did a Google image search for "american sniper baby scene" and yes, that is ridiculous. I also happened across a funny parody article chastising Eastwood for "promoting unhealthy beauty standards for babies" by using a perfectly symmetrical, perfectly proportioned fake.

The link was nothing more than an opinion piece.....of which a fair portion of it I disagree.

I'm not really going to link the film (on this discussion board) with the entire war justification.

Besides...what my opinion is of what we should have done after 9/11 would probably ban me from this website.

I am parking the Expedition in the movie theater parking lot to go see it now at a 4:10 show. At Newark CityPlex 12.

I thank all military members for their service.

I will post when the movie gets out. I turn my phone off during movies.

The movie just got out. I liked it.

Tour Four earned silent respect and joy from me.

The ending was a bit of a loop.. but I can see it. Almost came off as "preachy" to me.

And it was a *touch* long.

But it was a very good movie.

I give it an 8.5 out of 10. Military and military families will likely like it more than I.

Thank you all, for your service.

And God bless America.

I wouldn't have imagined it would be all that popular in San Francisco anyway.

Don't forget this is Dirty Harry's turf. Eastwood was also born in SF.

I have learned to ignore what the movie critics say. Time and time again I have listened to what some movie critic said about a movie and when I actually saw the movie it was like I and the movie critic lived in two different worlds. So for me I almost totally ignore the movie critics. They are no longer relevant.

I listen to what ordinary people say about a movie. I have found what ordinary people say to be much more accurate about the quality or lack of quality of a movie.

I will buy American Sniper when it comes out on DVD and probably also Unbroken.

I was thinking that since Berkeley is so close...and with the socio-political leanings of the Bay Area...that any movies featuring the military in any positive way would be frowned upon.

I don't want to give away the ending - but I had no idea nor was I anticipating how it would end.

Eastwood's WW2 drama Flags of our Fathers, which was very well-received when I saw it locally, is in my opinion a far superior movie compared to American Sniper, which to me comes across as fact-omitting and rather crooked propaganda. The movie's topic deserves addressing questions, uncomfortable as they may be, that this movie never asks. If it were a purely fictional account, I could forgive any lack of depth and foregone exploration and judge the movie simply on its entertainment value.
