Friend of the brother is looking into job at Amazon 6 minutes from us. Told him to go for it. I don’t dislike Amazon at all and they are creating jobs. What are your thoughts, insights?

Based solely off of what I've read from their working conditions, as I've never worked for them myself, I would stay far away from Amazon if other potential employment can be found. If other employment options are limited, any job beats no job.

Amazon is basically one of the worst jobs possible. They treat their employees like garbage, and they treat their contractors even worse :sneaky:

Turnover is so high that Amazon could soon run out of contractors to fire.

Only work at Amazon if there is NO other option. If there is anything else available, 99% chance it's better than Amazon.

The experience varies tremendously (as with any company that is big enough). It pays well but the working conditions can be tough. I know people who worked there, hated it, and left. Others who are still working there 15+ years later.

No reason to look into a job at Amazon.
Obviously, he’s looking for a job so take the job position and only then will he know if it’s right for him.
The job is right for thousands of people and for some other people it’s not as far as we know it could be a perfect match for him so take it.

What job is it? That would be the biggest question.

Warehouse drone? God no.
Delivery driver? Maybe.
Supervisor/Manager? Sure.

I have two relatives who worked for Amazon. One likes it a lot and has been there several years but plans to retire in a few months. The other got let go after a couple months for not being able to keep up with the minimum number of orders processed. A few weeks later he reapplied just to see what happens, got an interview and got rehired on the spot, even though he had just been fired the previous month. I cant wrap my head around that, but it happened.

Not sure about delivery drivers. We live way off the road a few miles out from the suburbs, a bit rural but not too far. Our UPS, Fed Ex, and post office guys have been the same ones for almost the whole time we have lived here (six years). I dont think I have ever seen the same Amazon driver twice.

We have a friend that worked there as a delivery person in a large metro area.
What she learned is that every person who lives on the 3rd or 4th floor of an apartment building orders everything from Amazon.

Probably not entirely true, but true enough that she quit.

AWS pays very well if you can meet the hiring standard. They do put you on stack ranking so if you are at the bottom 15% constantly you are likely not going to last. Based on what I heard it is no worse than Meta / Facebook but definitely more stressful than Google and Microsoft.

My initial manager was hired from another small company and he used to manage 200 people despite being paid a lot more to just manage 20. That's how high the standard was at his level and he did get promoted and hired another manager to do his job afterward within 1 year.

Everything I've read, seen, etc, I don't think their driver jobs are much better. Have you ever had the same driver deliver to your house ? I can't say we have but I don't see every one admittedly. You'd think they assign some drivers to the same general area or route but maybe they don't, 'cause it sure seems like they don't !

Yes we have

Yep, I chatted with a young lady a few times who looked barely out of high school. She had a positive attitude and delivered to 3 or 4 more houses after mine. The walmart delivery guy and I share the same first name and we greet each other with our corporate voices like we are at the prime of our careers.
