Automotive detailing job interview

My parents kind of joking said maybe they're Afraid that I have more experience than them. One of the managers that I interviewed with has been there 6 weeks and previously worked at Best Buy as a manager. This does seem weird

Any place or manager that would play games because a person has more experience likely isn't someplace you'd want to work. You tried.

I may be getting off in the weeds here, but have you thought about your own business?

I don't know where you're at, but here in "Podunk", Arkansas, detailing is a pretty good business. People want a nice, clean car, but they can't be bothered to do it themselves. Some of the smaller car lots hire out detail jobs as well.
Around here, there are a few mobile guys and several shops that are busy. As a reference, I'm in a town of 23k, not including the surrounding communities.

It's just a thought.

Yeah. I spoke with the hr lady who called the hiring team back and is only offering the base pay of $19/hr. "They really would like you to join the team." The job listed $18.90-$28.$25/hr. I asked for $26-$27 as thats fair pay with my skill range, so apparently they're cheapskates and don't actually look at skills. Kind of insulting.

Yeah I detailed vehicles on the side for ten years and had at one time though about it. When I worked for an independent dealership we were in a multi-unit building. One guy worked for six months like crazy then took the cold months off. I think now there are at least 5,6 or 7 detailing outfits within a few minute drive.

What about becoming an auto insurance claims adjuster/damage assessor? I don’t believe the licensing is particularly difficult or lengthy. Pay would also likely be increased. Not sure if that sounds appealing to you, but throwing it out there. Good luck regardless!

I have looked at Hagerty as they have offices in Colorado and tend to hire people that are passionate and enjoy anything automotive.

exactly what I had said earlier.. Trying to get your experience for low pay. It's insulting to say the least and these people are morons, plan and simple. Why waste your time with such low lives? Not worth it.. As others have said, think about starting your own detailing business, at least you would have your best intentions first!

Or at least anyone else than this current "low balling" place you interviewed at.

As others have said, they are trying to get you for as cheap as possible. Politely decline and state your reason: the wages are simply too low. Thank them for the time. You never know when you may run into them again.

Look of entry level medical equipment repair and you should be able to find something in $26-27 range.

Even if equipment doesn’t break down it still has scheduled preventative maintenance and inspection.

Dialysis companies always hiring.

I would not worry about it. This is a detailing job they hire just about anybody that can walk. I would mention pay though most only pay between 13 and 15 bucks an hour. Not acceptable.

I had a Johnson and Johnson vendor rep send me an employee referral application for a tech writer job. It's $95-$125k a year. $27 and hour is the poverty line in the Denver metro area now.

I disagree. pipelining is a cue of people your ready to hire when a position opens up or otherwise becomes available. The people on the list generally know what the position is or might be. The premise is you may be offered a job at some point in the future - your "on the list". But they may never call either.

Different than advertising a currently available full time opening then changing it to part time.

I don't have a problem with the hiring company. They don't have a full time position but offered part time. The applicant may accept or decline. Is what it is.

Pipelining is arguably an informal process with a lot of nuances. It is somewhat common for folks to be sent offers for roles that are different than what they originally applied for. There could also be some internal horse trading going on -- we need someone for PT now, but I have a better candidate for FT today....but if someone on my FT team bails, I want the PT person to join my team.
