I agree with some of your points. But I have been on the defense end myself. I have talked about it before on this board.
My ex set me up with the help of her boyfriend on sexual abuse charges against my Daughter. I can tell you one thing about the legal system. You can be convicted without being guilty...... When this was going on my Uncle was on a jury in a case just like mine. They convicted the guy. The guy got stabbed in prison. The ex Wife later recanted..... My Uncle later said they all just assumed he was guilty. I believe it is easier to be convicted of this sort of thing as opposed to murder. That is very sad, but true.
It is pretty easy to talk about all this stuff if you have never had you rear end on the fire. But then you see how easy it is to go to prison and be charged with first degree rape of a child, and first degree child molestation. It's even harder to take when it's your Daughter. Then you think about how you can get stabbed, raped, killed, or become Bubba's love interest in the pen.
My Daughter is 24 now and this is in the past. But if you guys think that you can only be convicted if you are guilty, you guys who I like to think are pretty informed have more to learn about the modern legal system. I used to think that the legal system was pretty fair and balanced.

That situation is a gender based bias by LEO and the justice system. They only appear to hire ex-rape victims as investigators ..and to run domestic relations. They have the same baseline miserable disposition like the people that typically staff district magistrate offices ..with an even more punitive aspect toward men.

I am so sorry that our justice system was used as a force against you. It happens all to often in our country!
That kind of false accusation has become the standard operating procedure for divorce/custody cases here in Michigan. Before you file for divorce you gotta get the restraining order and the child abuse cases in motion.
People should realize that the court system can be used as a weapon. I hope many of you so willing to pass judgement while knowing so little facts are never accused of anything you haven't done. If you are you'll soon realize that the lazy judge and prosecuters are little concerned with the truth and more concerned with moving on to the next case.

The above is pretty much how I feel, Garys comments are good to. Until you have your posterior on the line for rape of a child or murder you will never have be able to look at this from a more informed perspective. You guys are naive to believe that you are automatically guilty if accused of crimes which most people assume.
My Dad and I were talking about the Knox case today. His thought was the Prosecutor is trying to make a name for himself. I lost faith in the legal system being just. It's about winning your case, whether you are a Lawyer or a prosecutor. The more cases you win the better your career and advancement potential. The only sad thing is that if you don't have money to defend yourself, you are screwed.
I know that when my $$$$$ lawyer had his ducks in a row he asked the Prosecutor if he wanted to drop the charges. He said no. My Lawyer proceeded to make him look very bad. I also lucked out with the perfect Judge. I found out later he had a family member that had been through the same thing I had been. There is more to it than that, but that is another story.
I just pray that Knox is guilty, because it sounds like she might be in the pen for a long time. Being an American in Italy accused of murder is a few notches more dicey than in the USA. Scary to think how screwed up the USA legal system is, let alone in other countries.
What it really comes down to is human emotions drive all court outcomes. With all the other variables it's a roll of the dice. Hopefully none of those so quick to be judgmental won't ever end up in a bad predicament themselves.

I saw on the news that the Father of Amanda is saying the jury did not have the courage to acquit her. I thought that it was a profound statement. He was saying that a lot of things in the case did not add up. Sounds like the jury just followed local residents like sheep in their opinion of guilt.
That was my feeling from all the things I have read.
I feel that the legal system in Italy leaves much to be desired....... I don't live more than 30 miles north of Seattle, so the newspaper coverage is obviously better than anywhere else.

I live in Washington and we've had our fair share of murders and tragedies lately. That said, the salaciousness of this story...not to mention Knox is a white girl from an upper-middle class family who attended UDub...resulted in coverage overload. The Seattle Times even employed a pseudo-journalist/"freelancer" in Italy to cover the trial; readers became so sick of the story that the Times actually turned off their "comments section," due to criticism of the Times for disproportionately covering Knox.
That said, if Knox were a high-school educated Hispanic, from a lower-middle class family and the murder took place in Tacoma, do you believe the coverage would have been the same? Unfortunately, I suspect more readers care about the ongoing Knox soap opera than they do the recent tragedy involving the Lakewood Police Department.
BTW: I think most educated, well-traveled people understand that Italy isn't a third world country; furthermore, they don't have anywhere near the levels of violent crime we have. In otherwords, their court system seems to work well. At every step in her story, Knox lied...she blamed innocent people, she gave conflicting stories and ultimately, she put herself in a position to fail. I really wish the local print media would just move on and concentrate on our bigger problems...
