Alignment Woes..

Hi,
I needed a alignment pretty bad after replacing the CV, so i stopped over at the local Mavis Tire..

Before Front:
Camber Left-1.0°(0.5° to -0.5°) Center -0.4°(-0.7° to 0.7°) RT-0.6° (0.5° to -0.5°)

Caster
Left 1.8°(2.4° to 1.0°) Center 0.0° (-0.7° to 0.7°) RT 2.2°(1.0° to 2.4°)

Toe:
Left 0.17° (-0.10° to 0.10°) RT 0.73° ( 0.10° to -0.10°)

Before REAR

Camber
Left-0.7° (0.3° to -0.3°) Center 0.0° Rt -0.7°(-0.3° to 0.3°)

Toe
Left 0.52°(-0.15° to 0.15°) Center 0.03° (-0.30° to 0.30°) Rt 0.49° (0.15° to -0.15°)

Total Toe 1.01° (-0.30° to 0.30°)

Thrust Angle 0.01° (-0.15 to 0.l5°)

AFTER FRONT

Camber Left -1.0°(0.5° to -0.5°) Center -0.5°(-0.7° to 0.7°) RT-0.6° (0.5° to -0.5°)

Caster:
Left 1.8° (2.4° to 1.0°) Center -0.3°(-0.7° to 0.7°) RT 2.2° (1.0° to 2.4°)

Toe: Left 0.01°(-0.10° to 0.10°) Rt 0.02°(0.10° to -0.10°)

AFTER Rear:

Camber
Left-0.6° (0.3° to -0.3°) Center 0.0° Rt -0.7°(-0.3° to 0.3°)

Toe
left 0.53°(-0.15° to 0.15°) Center 0.03° (-0.30° to 0.30°) Rt 0.50° (0.15° to -0.15°)

Total Toe 1.02° (-0.30° to 0.30°)

Thrust Angle 0.01° (-0.15 to 0.l5°)

I called them, and they will look at it tomorrow, but whats up with the rear? the front is also off, the wheel is at 8&2 , give it 9&3 and you go right in a hurry. It pulls to the left and right, all depends on the road.. ugh..... What should i ask them to do? They did not adjust to much..

Red means out of spec, green is in spec... too bad its mostly red..

Camber is the tilt of the tire. neg = tilting in at the top. The front may require kits to correct this setting (at additional charge) The front camber and toe is unacceptable and will account for very accelerated tire wear. The rear camber is not that far out and is probably ok, but the rear toe is unnaceptable and will need to be corrected also.

I feel the front is good. 1* neg camber is not going to wear them out much faster than it would if it were inside the spec limits. The rear on the other hand, going to chew up the tires farely quickly with toe like that. MPG's are probably suffering too.

All they did was adjust the "toe-in" on the front. If they did not suggest alignment kits that you denied then they did not give you an alignment. I would seek a refund and go somewhere they know how to align a car.

Why did they ADD more neg camber to the LF?
Having both sided the same is more important then having a bit too much.
The rear looks pretty good to me - I would like that.
A neutral car will pull down a road crown a bit. but straight ahead should have a straight steering wheel.

I work on them enough it's easy as pie to set the rear toe, but you do need the kit to adjust the front end. Even then, it's not horrible, but at the very least they should've adjusted the rear toe.

I can imagine some places not wanting to adjust the front because, "some" customers would be offended and feel scammed (at the "new price").

I dont understand why people think this aligment is ok.. The rear toe is horrible. the part of the rear wheels that are closest to the front of the car is a 1/2" further away from the car than the rear of the wheel is. its like dragging your tires sideways down the road.

No kits, nothing, but a 64.99+tax bill. although i thought he was doing great by giving me 10$ off.

the rear was never looked at would be my guess.. when i was replacing the front brakes YESTERDAY,(6 days after alignment), the bolts to hold the tie rod was not even tight...

I could turn the bolt with my hand, as it was 1/8" from the tie ROD...

The rear tires are GONE, in under 7K miles... i have to replace the tires near every other month.. the 1/2 outer of the tire bald with steel showing while the inside will have 50% tread, on both tires. something is really out..

I guess this is ANOTHER shop i can cross off my list...Mavis Tire... WHY is it so hard to find, just a decent shop? This place cant even adjust the toe correctly, let alone the rear? Cheers, Have a good night.

With a FWD car, the rear wheels SHOULD be toed in a bit.

I agree, a little toe in is good. A little toe out(+.10) in the rear will help the car rotate tight turns like in autocross. +.50 toe out is horrible.

goto a place that does good alignments

tha place obviously doesn't know about alignments, just taking cars and operating a computer based machine and then taking your money......

sorry but it happens left and right, and most places that are "tires" stores are the worst believe it or not
