Gents~

Should I be wary of the aftermarket air filters for my 5HP Briggs Quantum? This fella is used on a push mower that gets exposed to ground dust during every trip around the yard. I'm not sure the OEM would be any better but thought I should ask you wizards.

And oh... did Briggs ever make a pre-filter for this (124700) engine?

Merci.

I haven't seen any bad aftermarket filters for this application.

The Honda 17211-ZL8-023 filter is a direct replacement for the 491588S and seems to be very high quality.

More good news... I'll likely go there for my present needs.

I buy them 30 at a time from Tulsa Engine Warehouse for $1.99 a piece. Probably from China. I have to shave (with wirewheel) them down a little thinner around the edges to fit honda engines. Just as good as anything else if you keep them dry. Pre filters can only add to an engine's protection if you go two or three years before changing filters or mow in extremely dusty conditions.
